Well here's the report of the gig initially discussed here.
This Convention Center gig was a lot of fun. The band sounded great. It was hard for us vocalists (Carrie and me, anyway), though. I felt like I was flirting with pitch disaster a time or two. Room sound, I am told, was very good. On the video (which I'll post part of later, probably), the band sounds nice, but the vocals have a ton of room reverb. I had to tell myself to stop listening to myself in the room, and just listen to the band and me on stage acoustically. It was a very simple PA set-up, run from the side of the stage. No mains, no monitors. Well, the mains were in the ceiling. I think this was simply "the house PA" of the convention center's. Drums got one overhead mic, piano (acoustic grand) was mic'd inside, or had some kind of pick-up in it (didn't look), and Rob had his bass amp that the tech took a line-out from. The tech did walk around elsewhere to check the mix and balance and was pleased. I took him at his word. Of course, this was after the show. I saw Gus (the MC, and fella who booked us) in the very back of the room, and I know he was pleased very much with the night, so the sound must have been okay to him as well. The video sounds not bad, I think, and is a fair representation of the room. Viewing it here at home, I ran the audio through the L1 and the video line to the TV. Wish'd I'd taken our system, but it was still a success, and I did not miss setting up and tearing down (in a tuxedo), no matter how small of an issue that actually is. It was so cool to have a totally attentive audience of that size, though. We were the entertainment, not just background music for visiting or while people left the room as they got tired (we were the last thing on their agenda that night). Something to beam over, even if the stage sound wasn't as great as I know it could have been. Live and learn, I guess. N |

Hi Nathan,
Glad it all went well, and that you didn't have to get your knees dirty. |

Hey Nathan;
Congrats on what sounds like a great, successful gig. I wish I had been in the audience. Respect Andy |

Hey Nathan
I was wondering how you made out. Thanks for posting and I'm glad it went as well as it did. It could have been allot worse. Do you think you will take the L1 next time you find yourself in that situation? |

Should I find myself playing there again, yes...the L1 surely must be in tow. Unless I am able to talk to the sound guy personally ahead of time to find out what's what, the L1 should always be in my (our) arsenal!
Thanks for checking in, Rick. Still need to get the video/audio up... N |
