Well, the PAS never ceases to amaze me. I mentioned in a previous post about an upcoming gig in a 2 room situation. Well we did it last night and here are the results.

The venue was a long narrow bar in the basement of an American Legion post. The main bar area was approximately 20' X 50'. The back room was approximately 20' X 20' and that's where they wanted us to be. Some of the powers that be thought a band would be too loud in the main area and disturb their dinners and conversations.

The 2 rooms were separated by a 4' door which was propped open. I rearranged the band, so that the PAS unit was facing the 4' opening 20' feet away and to the bands left. in order to do this the PAS had to be placed (within 6") next to the entrance door where people were continually coming and going.

When we started to play I had grave misgivings about the sound going into the main room. The people in the small room where we were said the sound was great and they were able to carry on their conversations while we played and still enjoy the music.

The first thing I noticed when we started playing was that watching the people in the other room, through the open doorway, I saw heads starting to turn to look through the opening and feet starting to tap to the music.

After the first set, I went into the bar area and people were telling me the music was great and how clear the sound of the music and vocals were. They all said the sound level was just great and they were comfortable being able to talk and listen to the music. This was great news to me, because my original thoughts were that we were not going to be heard very well in the main bar area and the band would not make a good showing because of this.

When we were done, the man in charge told me that we had done an excellant job performing in such a small venue and the sound was great. He said the setup was intensional as he had some board people to impress, so that perhaps this could be turned into a public dance in the large upstairs hall. He said that things were good enough that now they will take the proposition to the board. Of course this is like "THE CHECK IS IN THE MAIL" but we are keeping our fingers crossed.

The point of this is, don't be afraid to try things that you think a sound system will not or is not supposed to do. The PAS may just surprise you...

The Bose L1 system not only surprises, but continues to excite me in every new situation.

Congratulations Dewey!

You just keep winning and winning. Glad that worked out so well for you.

In case anyone is wondering (and it was driving me crazy until I found it), Dewey's first mention of this space was in his post some three weeks ago...

Thanks ST, was so wrapped up in what I was saying that I forgot to mention the time of the first post regarding this gig.
