Hello All – I had an interesting experience today (Sunday). I played at a local arts festival here. I had my L1 model 2. Drumr aka. Pete came down for a visit and he was sitting in with me. He had his compact. Set everything up, turned on the power and got a blue screen on my T1. Checked all the connections and rebooted everything, and still a blue screen. Hooked my T1 to Pete’s power supply and it came on. Pete hooked his T1 with his power supply to the input on my model 2 and still nothing. His T1 was on but the model 2 power light was on but no audio. I quickly plugged into another PA that was there and we did the gig. Pete’s compact worked fine, porch board and vocal. We were running off a big generator. When I got home I hooked everything up and it all worked fine. Go figure. Why would the compact work but not the model 2. I know there have been discussions about generators and I have used them before, big ones and small ones. This was a big industrial generator. Any thoughts and future solutions will be welcomed. Thanks – Roy. P.S. Even if we didn’t get to use the Bose we had a good time. It didn’t sound that good, but we had fun and I really enjoyed playing with Pete.

I'm glad you & Pete had a good time, in spite of the power glitches!
It could be that the Model 2 is more sensitive to the quality of the power? It certainly draws more power. An "industrial" generator often provides rather lousy power (they are designed for quantity, not quality -- unless it is designed to power a medical facility -- talk about being sensitive to power issues!). One relatively cheap solution is to use as small of a "computer" UPS as you can find (often <$80) instead of a power strip ... those battery-powered UPS's that look like an overgrown power strip. It's not that you'll run on the battery ... but it'll provide the clean power for virtually any 'source' power you have it plugged into. It may seem to weigh half as much as a Compact, though (albeit smaller). |

Hey Dan - That is exactly our thoughts. We were lucky that there was another PA to plug into. I wish I could find a generator to recreate the problem and then test this solution. Thanks - Roy |

Update - I found out last night that there was a problem with the generator. Some switches were not turned on. Others were having problems that day also.

Hi Roy, I'm glad you figured out the power problems. Any problem I've ever had with my MII was power related.
The Interruptible Power Supply is a good solution even though they're like a sack of bricks to carry around. Then again you wouldn't need to consider using one unless it was an outdoor gig like you did running from a dubious power supply. By the way, I'm sorry I couldn't make it up to meet with you and Pete, I had my own gig...but I saw you guys on TV! (and the Bose!) btw, I'll be filling in for Roy on Nov. 14th and I think we both agree we've finally found a venue when the Bose will just not work leo "It don't mean a thang, without that tropical twang" |

Hey Roy,
Thanks for the update. Glad to know that it wasn't the L1® and that you weren't the only one experiencing difficulty, if only because it confirms that this was an issue with the environment and not just your gear. Problems with power seem particularly vexing because they always present themselves as opportunities to spend money - and often you won't know for sure if the money was well spent.
