Is it possible to connect the above amp directly to channel 1 on the powerstand?
I was also thinking of connecting the Ampeg directly to the B1 modules for practice, since the ampeg has speak on outs? Are the pairing of 2 B1 modules connected in series or parallel? |

Hi biz,
Do you mean this? http://www.ampeg.com/products/pro/svt3pro/ Looking at the manual http://www.ampeg.com/pdf/SVT-3PRO.pdf It looks like there is a 1/4 inch Preamp Out that you could use to connect to the Power Stand Channel 1. Do not connect the 1/4 inch speaker out to the Power Stand. There is a balanced XLR Line Out as well, but I didn't see any specification about the nominal output level. It may be a little hot for the Power Stand Channel 1 input which is set for microphone level inputs. B1 When you connect one B1 to another the connection is parallel. So Amp -> B1 -> B1 presents a 4 ohm load (Rated at 250 watts) Does that help? |

Thansk ST! That's the one i was referring to.
Is there any problem connecting the ampeg directly to the B1s for practice? What is the frequency response of the B1s? |

Hi biz,
Well, your amp output "RMS Power Output (4 Ohms): 450-Watts " exceeds that of the L1™ Power Stand (250 watts into 4 ohms) so you will have to exercise some reasonable caution here.
Check out this discussion B1 Upper Frequency Range. Watch for some notes from Hilmar-at-Bose. |

Biz, You really don't want to do this. As ST mentioned the Ampegs power output exceeds what the B1's can take. More importantly, the B1's are designed to be system components hooked up to an L1 mothership. They are not meant to stand alone as full range speakers. They won't sound optimal at all - even for practice - used this way. For practice when I didnt want to set up my full L1 rig I got a little Peavey 8" kicker bass amp of craigslist for $20. Works great! I'd suggest going this route rather than risking your B1's and having less than optimal sound. I use a T1 / L1 model II rig for all my bass playing now. Before that a Classic. I still have my Eden WT800 and Eden 410XST that have collected dust in their cases for three years since I have gotten to know the L1. Give the L1 a shot going direct into it. There's a lot of great tone shaping in the Ampeg (just like my Eden) but you may very well get the sound you are looking for going direct and not have to carry around a 35 lb preamp. Good luck!
