I own and produce a comedy program for the military. We play venues as small as 100 people and theaters as large as 1500. Our average audience is in the 200 to 300 range. Most of the venues are loud - due to laughter - and I am interested in the L1 (double base) System to upgrade the technology and lighten our load on the road and at load-in/load-out. I am currently running with 4 802's and 2 302 Subs - amps, etc.

Does anyone have thoughts on an appropriate set-up? I run with 802/302 stage left and right and 802's on speaker stands in the back of the room for fill.

Experienced advise would be appreciated

Is your comedy primarily spoken? Or does it include a lot a music? (That question really only affect how many B1's you might need.)

I would think that two L1 Systems would be sufficient -- and only would need to use one in the smaller places. You generally would NOT need anything at the back of the room for 'fill'.

Just thinking ... add a wireless output to a Compact, and you would then be able to cover an 'overflow' room as well as have an additional "fill" if you found yourself in a very long room (>120') that needed it.

Hi Rich,
I installed two Model II's with single B1's on the back corners of a 12' x 8' stage (16" high) at Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club here in Calgary. The room is 55' x 55' with seating very close to the stage (3' from each L1 on the sides) back to booths along the back and one side of the room. The stage is half-way along one wall. The ceiling is suspended at 8.5 feet. Total legal occupancy is 235, but the room has handled more.
This is the 15th Yuk Yuk's location in Canada and I'm hearing that this club has by far the best sound. Everyone in the room can hear everything the comic says. No missed punch lines.
This room has all kinds of bass (recorded music pre and post performance) so single B1's work well.
I'm running the T1 in a sound booth with 75' of Cat 5 with no problems. The second L1 is fed with 1/4" mic cable out of the Master.
The comics love the system because they know everyone in the room can hear every word they say. Reaction to their jokes is immediate and consistent. Volume levels and coverage to all corners of the room are terrific. Plus there is zero equipment to spoil sight lines from any seat in the house.
I'm told every new club in this franchise will be specifying L1 Model II's. And the cost compared to a traditional fixed system was about half what they expected to pay. Bonus.
