Virtual L1 Compact Interactive Demo

Hi Neil,

Overall the interactive demo is great, but I am confused by the description in the "User Interface Panel" section on #8.

The 1/8 jack is described as "Balanced", but shown with the "Stereo" output plug from an "MP3 Player".

In a true Balanced input, wouldn't that subtract the differences of Right and Left, as opposed to the "Stereo input, of the 2 RCA jacks which Sum the input.

Possibly I am confusing the term "Balanced" cable vs "Stereo" cable which are both TRS, and although I believe I understand the true difference, I don't have a good example to explain it.

Please advise which is correct.

I may have come across a better explanation of the Cables, here. MediaCollage.
They describe it as follows:

A TRS connector with a 2-core cable (ie a cable with a shield and two signal wires) can be used for either a balanced mono signal or an unbalanced stereo signal.

If it is used for a balanced signal, the sleeve connects to the shield, ring to cold and tip to hot.

If it is used for a stereo signal, the tip is the left channel, the ring is the right channel, and the sleeve is the shield.

Our audio connection pages might be of some help as well.

So is the 1/8 jack, actually looking to Sum an Unbalanced (Left & Right) Stereo signal from an MP3, into a "Mono" signal for the L1 Compact?

Hi Joel,
Nice to hear from you - rockin new avatar...

We are going to update this to this to stereo cable in our materials as this was indeed a typo.

Thanks for bringing this up.

Neil

Bose dudes,
This comes at a really good time as I was considering to buy a couple of non-bose speakers and amp as a backup to my L1M2 rig. How much punch has this new little guy got in comparison to the L1M2 (double subs)? Most of my stuff is wedding biz, 50-150 people. Could I stack this unit along with my L1M2?

Hi Rick,

Good to hear from you, and your excitement about the L1 Compact system.

I think the demo units are due in GC stores any day. Give them a call and see if they can pinpoint that. I think the Bose store in Nashville may already have theirs, so you can try that too.

With best regards,

Ken
