Just to see if anybody does that... one L1 compact for a jazz quartet for 200 people?!
We are a quartet with piano, guitar, drums and bass. We mainly do wedding gigs and are really tired of trasnporting all those big speakers and monitors. Will one L1 compact + a mixer save us all? I know I'm pushing the unit to its limit... just curious on that. Any comments or answers will be appreciated. |

Hi deepman,
Welcome to the forum! Do you have a vocalist? Do you use microphones on the drum kit? Do you have or use any amplifiers for the guitar and bass? Do you have a website or photos you could post (add as attachment to post). |

Yea, sometimes we have a vocalist instead of a guitarist.
We use 3 microhpones to mic the drum. One on bass and two overheads. We will have amplifiers for bass only(hopefully). |

Hi deepman,
Just for context: I have a couple of Compacts and like them very much. I also have a couple of L1® Model IIs and for larger spaces - I like them more. If I was doing a show for 200 people at a wedding, the minimum I would want to use would be two Model IIs. Something like this. -- click image to make changes to the live version -- Legend: L1® Model II T1 ToneMatch® audio engine Orange numbers are Systems and Inputs using those Systems. Blue filled numbers are Channel connections to/from the T1 ToneMatch™ audio engine. I understand that the Guitarist and Vocalist may not be on the stage at the same time. L1® Model II with two B1 Bass Modules and a T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine - Piano - Drums L1® Model II with two B1 Bass Modules and a T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine - Bass - Guitar and / or - Vocalist Your thoughts? |

Hi deepman,
You could start with one Model II with two B1s. I am certain that you would be happier with a T1®, but if you wanted to try using your existing mixer, that would probably work. The Model II will give you the dispersion to reach 200 people. I'd keep the Bass in a separate amp though. Why Two instead of One? It's not that a Model II can't handle everything. It probably can, but you will want some separation to make it easier for monitoring. Since the Model II is acting as both your main loudspeaker and your monitor, you don't get a separate mix for monitors. If you have everything running through a single Model II, it will sound fine to the audience (although not as good as two Model IIs), but you may have some challenges monitoring. It will just be more difficult for individual performers to hear themselves in the mix when you have multiple sources coming out of one loudspeaker. If you have a vocalist OR a guitar, but not both at the same time, then the monitoring issue might not be a big deal. If you are in North America then you would have 45 days to check it out and see how it works for you. See: Bose Returns and Exchanges When you get the second Model II then you can get the benefits of Localization. Check out the link for more details. |
