Though I have two B1s it sounds tinny. I've tried EQing using t1; still sounds too tinny. I play a Collings om2hsb with k n k pure mini under saddle passive pickup. I'm using recommended k n k preamp. Still sounds tinny. Please someone tell me what I'm doing wrong. I played through a cheap Fender passport 150 that to my ears sounded much better than the best setting I've made on my Bose. I really want to keep this L1, but so far am sadly disappointed. I MUST BE DOING SOMETHING WRONG. Help...

Hi Playtobias,

I’m sorry you haven’t been able to get the sound you had hoped through your L1 system! Here are a few things to try that might help:

If you haven’t already, be sure the trim is set properly so that a strong signal is getting to the T1. To set the Trim, follow the steps below.

1. Set the Master, Channel, and Trim controls to zero.
2. Adjust the volume of your guitar to the desired level.
3. Play the guitar at the loudest level that you would during a performance.
4. While playing, slowly turn the Trim control clockwise until the signal/clip indicator shows red. Then turn the knob the other way to keep the light from showing red. The idea is to have the trim control as high as it can be without the indicator turning red.

Next, try all of the guitar presets. There is not a specific preset for your guitar, but that’s OK. If a particular instrument or microphone does not have an associated preset, you will find general-use presets in most preset banks. For example, the first few “Acoustic Guitar” presets are for general use. Try these general presets first.

That being said, even if the product you are using has an associated preset, there might be a different preset that sounds better to you. So, scroll through all the guitar presets to see which preset’s sound you prefer. Whatever sounds best to you is the one to use.

Then, once you’ve chosen a preset (even if it’s the “Flat” preset), adjust the T1’s zEQ to tweak the tone more to your liking. Start with the low, mid, and high at zero and add or subtract whichever one you would like more or less of.

If the sound is still tinny, please contact us at the phone number below and we can discuss the issue further.

I hope that helps!

Bob

Hi Playtobias,

One more suggestion: If your system doesn’t seem to be providing a full range of frequencies (especially lower frequencies), be sure that the bass module speakon cables are “clicking” into place. For example, when you plug into the “B1 Bass Module” jack on the Model I powerstand, turn the plug to lock it – or “click” it – into place.

For details and a visual, follow this link and see page 18: http://products.bose.com/pdf/c...l1_model_I_guide.pdf

I used my Roland ac30 amp in lieu of the T1 and immediately dialed in my sound. So far I'm not replicating this sound with my T1. What else should I check to remove the tinny sound produced by the T1?

Thx

Hi Playtobias,

If the suggested troubleshooting steps above didn’t help, please contact us at 877-335-2673. so we can discuss the issue further.

If you’re trying to simulate the sound from your Roland amp, here is another thing to consider: Guitarists often have specifics amps they use to get the sound they are looking for. The Bose T1 presets apply EQ but they do not simulate amplifiers. If you aren’t satisfied with the sound you’re getting from the Bose presets and EQ alone, you could try connecting to an amp or amp simulator before plugging into the T1.

Feel free to contact us by phone though and we can try to provide more assistance.

Thanks!

Bob,
Thanks much for all your expert tips. I appreciate your patience with me as I am not a sound tech. Typically I've relied on sound techs, however, recently, I've taken on this area as a solo musician. My expectations having read all the raving reviews on the L1, was I'd plug in to L1, minor EQing, and be there. So when I had trouble (due mainly to my lack of knowledge), I was frustrated. Since using the T1 vs my Roland is apples and oranges (mixer vs amp), I am very pleased simply running my amp through the L1. I may call you for further advice. Thank you again!

Joe
