Hi eleam

I'll get back to you in a couple minutes about the wireless mic. Let's assume that you will run your mic into Channel 1.

In the meantime, check out:

VoiceLive using Insert Point

For your MiniDisk (as you are reading substitute iPod with Minidisk).

Assume that you will send the signal from the Minidisk to Channel 2 on the Bose System.

Hi eleam

Here is a summary of cables that you will probably need.

1 XLR cable for connecting the Wireless Receiver to the Bose System (Channel 1)

microphone cable

-- click image to see web page --

2 Insert Cable for connecting the VoiceLive to the Channel 1 Insert Point

Insert cable

-- click image to see web page --

3 Stereo Mini Plug/cord for connecting the MiniDisk player (headphone or line out jack)
(black end to the Player)

You can use this (occasionally controversial approach of summing to mono without electronics to support it). Red and White ends from picture above go into short points below.

Long pointy end then plugs into a free Channel. (in your case probably Channel 2)
Click the images to see the ordering information if you want to get them from Radio Shack.

(disclaimer: I have nothing to do with ZZ Sounds or Radio Shack but they have decent pictures).

I'll have a quick description of how to connect everything shortly.

Hi eleam

Here is a picture. Hope it helps.

-- click image to make changes to the live version --

Cable 1 (XLR cable) connects Wireless Receiver to Channel 1 on the Bose System. You will have to read the instructions for your wireless mic to set up the wireless part. When you have that done, make the connection to the Bose System. Then set up the Gain on the Powerstand. Here's a video on how to do that.
Go to
Get Plugged In,
Click Short set-up videos (near the top right of the page)
Please check out
  • Presets - an incredibly important aspect of the System. Watch this one for sure. You will probably like Preset 17 or 00.
  • Gain - this is setting the trims for a vocalist.

Cable 2 (Insert Cable) connects Voice Live to the Channel 1 Insert point on the Bose System.
Details:VoiceLive using Insert Point

Cable 3 (stereo mini plug and stereo to mono adapter) connect your Minidisk Player to Channel 2 on the Bose System.

ST, in going out of a stereo md or iPod, is there any difference between taking two lines out (each side of player output) summing it to a stereo/balanced 1/4" plug, as opposed to the mono/unbalanced one (as in your pic)?
And what if you come out of the headphone out (1/4" stereo out) with an unbalanced 1/4"cable, right into the mixer? Or a stereo 1/4 into the mixer?

Which is the best way to avoid one side of the signal to be lost, or to come back up/out the other side? I'm still unclear about how the summing works...

As long as the MD is close at hand AND has an output volume/level control, that's not too much of a problem. IMHO, the biggest drawback of channels 3&4 in this way is not being able to tweak the EQ like one can with the remote.

ST, if you use the Y 2-1 piece, will that eliminate the chances of one channel going back up the other side? And are you saying that a 2-1 cable with a stereo plug going in to the mixer wouldn't?

And you said you haven't had problems summing a stereo signal to mono, going out the headphone out, but didn't say what kind of line out you use. Just a mono male 1/4 to 1/4 line, or a stereo 1/4 out to a mono male 1/4 in? I'm still not clear....
