Greetings fellow Bosers.

I play around a 100 shows/yr and aprox. 50% solo and 50% duo shows with a L1 Model 1 with single B1. It is fantastic! I run my K&K equipped guitars into Ch1 and SM58 for vocals into Ch2 and sometimes a Behringer 802 mixer into Ch3 for duo configurations.

Most of the time the 802 sounds great.

I occasionally have feedback issues when using the external mixer, and I can sometimes tell the stuff running through the mixer doesn't sound quite as good as it could. I'm considering a T1 but I'm just having trouble justifying the expense, espeically considering I only really need it half the time at best.

Is there something special about the T1 that I would want to always use it rather than Ch 1 and 2 of the Model 1?

I guess I'm really asking you all to convince me I really need a T1.

Thansk!
David

Hi Dave,

In your shoes, here is how I would end up using the T1®.

I would use it all the time as my personal interface to the Model I.

Scenes - a snapshot of all your settings
I'd have scenes set up for each of the guitar/microphone combinations (Preset, zEQ and Parametric EQ settings) and perhaps, if I had songs that really needed certain effects to sound authentic, I'd have scenes for those too. Scenes in the T1® - documentation

Another approach
If you don't want to do it with the scenes, you could just have
T1® Channel 1 for your microphone (force of habit - I always set up my systems with Vocals in #1)
T1® Channel 2 for your most frequently used guitar
T1® Channel 3 for your next most frequently used guitar
T1® Channel 4 for something else I suppose

More
This, plus the built-in tuner would greatly simplify my life as a solo performer.
zEQ is smarter than the three band EQ in the R1 Remote
Parametric EQ is a huge plus for me when fine tuning the sound for my guitars.

Then, when I was working in a duo format, I would have my duo partner plug directly into the Model I Power Stand Channels 1 and 2.

Why?
Because then my setup solo and duo would be exactly the same.

Two other features that I love about the T1.

1 With the mic stand adaptor it is always at your fingertips.

2 The ability to quickly mute the individual channels. This allows you to unplug a guitar without pop, quickly kill a squealing mic, and many other things.

Respect,
Col. Andy

Thanks, ST and Col. Andy. Sounds pretty cool.

A couple questions:
- Does a scene snapshot capture just one channel?
- How many bands of Parametric EQ are available per channel? For example, can I use on for a A-note notch and another for treble tweaking?

A Scene is a snapshot of all your settings for all Channels except for trim and channel volumes.

One Para EQ per Channel, but in addition to that you have the three band zEQ on each Channel.

Also: if you have an open Channel, and you are not using the AUX buss for anything else, you can daisy-chain two Channels (and with that the ParaEQs. It's not elegant or simple, but it is doable.

David,
I've yet to hear a third party mixer that can match the sound quality of the T1 with a Model II.
The Presets make great sounding EQ so easy, just push a button.

Hi David!
I find things like the Noise Gate function in the T1® to be handy at times when I'm needing a little more mic gain for some reason. It can stop the mic from ringing when the volume is cranked. Although I very rarely use any effects like reverb, delay, etc., as ST pointed out the zEQ and Parametric EQ for each channel are real handy at times. Plus, the tuner is built-in!

There is a pro-like quality about the preamps used in the T1® that is hard to explain. But, you'll hear it, once you use a T1® as a mixer for awhile. Oh, and one more thing...don't overlook the ability to save scenes and the ability to download specific T1® Presets for use with different instruments.

Yup, it's pricey, but you get a lot of functionality for your money. If you decide on buying one, don't forget to order the power supply with it, since you have a L1 Model I.

Good luck!

John

Hello David
I play about as many shows a year as you and use the Bose L1 Classic and B1 with a T1. I love it. It's a very powerful "little box." I have set several scenes to my preference and can switch between scenes very easily. I use three guitars in my show - a Martin om42, a Fender Tele, and a Taylor T5. All have a "reserved" channel with their own preset and it's simply a matter of grabbing the guitar I want and off I go. I also use an SM58 (same one I've used since 1969 - a testimony in and of itself) and it sounds great. I was a bit shy of the price at first but, after about three months on my card, it was paid for free and clear. I recommend the T1 - you'll have the controls at your fingertips.

Another 'benefit' which hasn't been pointed out yet....

If you use a T1 for your mics and instruments ... plugged into Channel 3 on the Model 1 ... then that frees up Channels 1 & 2 on the Model 1 so you can use the Behringer mixer for "guest use" that can sound much better.

The idea is that you would run the "guest mics" (when you don't have any more unused mic inputs on the T1) into the Behringer and pan them hard Left. Take that Left output into the Model 1, Channel 1, with a mic Preset. For anything else plugged into the Behringer (guitars, etc.) pan them hard Right and take the Right output into Model 1, Channel 4 (flat EQ). And that still leaves you Channel 2 open if you have an "visiting instrument" which you'd like to try with one of the Model 1's Presets.

In other words ... treat the Behringer as two separate mixers in one chassis: one for mics and one for instruments.

Thanks, guys. That is some great information. I think I'll print it all off and save for future use.

You've pertty much convinced my I would not regret the purchase. Now it's just a matter of saving up the funds and avoiding re-allcation to House, Medical, etc. Smile

One more question: The T1 is voiced for the L1 system. Can it be used as a general mixer for other systems?

Thanks for all the good informatino,
David

I use my T1 with my SoloAmp (purchased before the L1 Compact arrived on the scene) and it sounds great. So, "yes," it is amazingly fluent.

David, have you looked into buying online direct from Bose, 1-year/no interest?

Hi David,

I was going to refer someone else to this discussion and I remembered some other benefits of the T1®.

Line Out (Aux)
It is very easy to provide a line out to an external system. This can go to a house system or another L1® to extend your reach into a room.

USB interface
You can connect to a computer using the USB interface as a source for prerecorded material.

You can also use the T1® as interface to a computer for recording.

Thanks, ST.

If I connect a T1 to my computer via USB, will I get the channels sperately into my recording software? or will it just be all mixed together as a mono signal?

Thanks,
David

You will be able to assign the T1 channels to either Left or Right inputs into your PC.
The PC return to the T1 can be assigned to Master or 4/5.

Another question:

If I order a T1 is there a trial period for evaluation? I'll need to use at least two weeks to have a chance to test my various solo and duo configurations throug it.

Thanks,
David

David,

For sure if you order from Bose. Then you get 45 days. Other authorized dealers may have different trial terms.

Hello Cletus McDuff,

I am glad you joined the forum.

That bluescreen issue was addressed with a firmware update in February 2008.

Anyone who needed it could download and install it from their computer.

Every now and then someone posts about having this issue with an older T1®, but installing the firmware update solves the problem.

If you know anyone who is having issues like this, please ask them to join us here or pass on these links.
