I have been playing in rock bands for a long time (40 years...) and I now I am putting a duo together. I am looking at the Bose L1 Compact. I was about to buy a full Mackie system today, until I found this. Tell me more folks! Also why don't they just charge a little more, add another XLR for the 2nd MIC and maybe some delay/reveb?

Welcome to the forum Bill,

I use the L1 Model II with my duo. But I have the ToneMatch (T1) to manage the signal. I know you can use the T1 with the L1 Compact; you might want to try this combination. The T1 should take care of your reverb and modulation requirements.

To answer the question from your other post, the L1 goes behind the performer(s) and that eliminates the need for a monitor. You hear what the audience hears.

By the way, I loved your blues songs on your site.

Have fun!

Hello Bill,
The Compact was designed from L1 user requests for a smaller more compact unit. It's intent was for a simpler solution for smaller gig's.The larger L1 Model II has all the bells and whistles you mentioned at more expense. The Compact has, in my opinion , far surpassed it's capability.I know that a lot of duo's use the larger setup, but many solo musicians like myself, are using the Compact more than the larger L1.With the Bose trial period ,you could purchase the Compact and try it out in your venues. If it doesn't work for those venues, return it and move up to the larger L1.If you each bought a Compact,it would cost less that the larger single L1 solution, and would probably work for you.At a later date you could purchase the T1 Tonematch and have all the extras you mentioned. Each of you could have two channels. No monitors are needed since you place the Compacts behind you.I am sure others will give their suggestions also.Have a great day - J.D.

Hi Bill,

Check out the T1 simulator. You can see how it allows you to expand the inputs if you end up using an L1 Compact and also gives you a bunch of studio-grade effects if you use them.

I'm new on this forum as well and this is my first post. I just bought a L1 Compact and a T1 Tonematch. I got the L1 Compact from a local Bose outlet and the T1 lightly used on eBay. I have played out with it twice now (both times without the T1 which I bought after trying the L1 alone first).

I must say that the sound of the L1 Compact and T1 together is just phenomenal. I have a Shure SM87 mic which needs the phantom power and I like adding a little reverb and compression.

This setup replaces a Roland AC60 which I had customized with coaxial speakers. The AC60 sounded really wonderful... that is until I heard the Bose. This is far and away the best small venue system I have ever heard, let alone played through.

Hi Laurence,

Thanks for joining the forum!

I am glad you are enjoying your L1® Compact and T1®.

Please tell us more about your music:

  • What kind(s) of music you play?
  • Where you do it (size, type of venue)?
  • Who is there (audience) - how many, what are they doing while you are performing?
  • Do you have a web site?

Thank you.
