I've been listening to this guy on youtube who goes by fretkiller (or sometimes frtkillr). He has over a hundred videos posted. Anyone know who this might be? He sings well and can pick incredibly well on flatpick or fingerstyle. Maybe he uses an L1 too...

Hi Capt.

Can't help you with the ID, but I really liked to song and the performance.

The voice is VERY well recorded and I'm wondering how. There's a cord dangling down his chest and it makes me wonder if he's using a headworn mic.

There's a distinct absence of the tonal changes that come from your mouth being at different distances from a dyanamic microphone. It sounds like a Neumann U87. The guitar sound is also very good. I'm thinking he's got a high quality pickup because if he were using a microphone you'd hear room sound and you don't.

Hmm...

Ken

I agree Ken. The quality of his guitar and voice coupled with the quality of the sound achieved stand out miles from most of the stuff on the youtube and that was one thing that intrigued me because I'd like to put some good videos up on there. He is one heckuva picker too. In reading the youtube post, his ID seems to be some great mystery that nobody can figure out.

He has a version of "Would You Like to Play the Guitar" on YouTube as well which was recently talked about here.

I get the feeling from watching that he may have recorded it elsewhere and then "pick-synched" it for the vid. Is pick synched a valid term?? It is now! That is no pickup on the git-fiddle i'm almost sure - far too rich and mic'd sounding. If it is a pickup I want one too..........I agree he's a standout kind of performer.
