I occasionally play in a two piece acoustic outfit. We have started experimenting with backing tracks. We don't normally play in venues big enough to justify a second PAS system and in one venue we tend to go through the house PA.

Unfortunately the only way I can use the backing tracks in this set up is to:
1) Put them as a mono feed from my MP3 player into the second input of channel 4 (ie one that already has a guitar in it and its own EQ on that guitar)
2) Use the same output as my vocal from my Digitech Vocalist Live - this makes its own EQ issues as I prefer the vocal EQ on the T1 rather than the vocalist one.
3) Play via USB from my laptop (extra gear, don't like bringing a $2500 laptop to a place where drunk people hang out!)

Therefore - does anyone think that maybe a 6 channel T1 unit would be of use?

Or can anyone recommend a decent mixer that works very well with the L1 system

(I have the L1 model II)

Hi tightropetom,

I am glad you joined the forum.

You can run a mono feed from your MP3 player into the Model II Power Stand Analog input.

You will have to control the volume on the MP3 player. This might be inconvenient but at least, you won't have the compromises you described in your post.

The other approach would be to get a second T1®. I use two T1®s running the second one into the Power Stand Analog input.

Yeah, the only problem there is when we have to run through the house system via phono jacks (two venues we play basically offer a phono connection from the stage but no access to their mixer - REALLY annoying, would be easier if we could plug directly in via jack outputs), I couldn't run the mp3 through that way.

Since posting I discovered the Daisy Chain method. Looks useful, but again a slightly larger T1 would mean less fiddling around connecting everything in to different things and mess and tangled leads and power supplies and and and and aaaaaggghhh!!! :-)

No argument here. I too have wished for more inputs on the T1®. For me having each performer using his/her own T1® has meant greater independence, more flexibility, and greater commitment to managing his/her own sound.

For anyone else reading this, we have some application notes in the wiki for Duos.

Duo

And in those notes - some information about

Daisy Chaining T1®s

Id like to see a TRUE 6 channel version.. (not this 4/5 combo style)

Had my first gig last night with a T1 on the Classic. LOVED the guitar sound.
Built a single to dual XLR cable at the last minute since 2 of us use Sennheiser microphones and both sing lead. (easy to use the identical settings)

Used the medium compressor setting and it took a full set to re teach ourselves on how to sing and that no matter how hard we pushed, it was only going to get "so loud".

Started the electronic drums on one of the tonematch settings with the audix kick mic - as i added treble to the zEQ the snare changed to a piccolo model - it was great for a laugh.

Next purchase is probably a paclite and 2 more subs -

Hey Tightropetom,
check out the Yamaha MG82CX for a compatible mixer. Takes care of the occasional extra input need and you can run the stereo main out through a Y or just one cable panned hard left or right to the analog input, or the T1 itself. If you run to one of the T1 Channels, this enables usb recording to your laptop as well if so inclined. The MG82 has it's own on board effects as well. If you run to a T1 Channel, this with 2 similar guitars where you can share presets, works well especially if guitars have their own EQ. I truly love the L1 Mod II and T1, but when a gathering materializes, you realize you just need a few more inputs. If the 82 doesn't fill the bill, consider the Yamaha MG124CX with even more inputs. Tough to beat the 82's $150 or so price tag, and it does play well with Bose.
Good luck!

I agree with Walt, for Bose to redesign the T1 for 6 channels would not be cost effective. They would be better off with a 12 channel mixer. Then you are in the price range of the Yamaha digital mixers which are very good and can be run from a laptop if needed. Of course someone would complain and want a 24 channel mixer etc.

Ok, I'll say it...

What we are really asking for is a Bose mixing board (12 chan, 16 chan, whatever), but WITH Bose instrument and mic presets, and WITH custom taylored EQ curves, and I suppose with all the effects and other features.

But this would of course lead to using one or two L1's as the "mains", with everyone running into everything, and now we're one step closer to a conventional 3-tier system, which defeats the entire purpose of the L1: to get us each using our own L1, and musicians mixing by ear and playing dynamics rather than having the soundman mix the show for them.

Unlikely as it may be, I'm looking forward to the day we see ensembles with everyone using their own L1, and playing off of each other, like in the old days...with the resultant better performance by better musicians.

I'm just sayin'... Smile

PS: In the scenario I mention above, the T1 is changed from a small mixer, short a few channels of what it should have, to what I believe Bose intended: a single performer's mixer with multi-channel overkill to allow for ease of use with multiple instruments, or a soloist using backing tracks, etc. And you still have an extra input or two for a sit-in musician...

Yeah I suppose there's a lot of sense being spoken here. My issue is that some of the venues I play are not large enough to be able to justify haveing 1 bose unit each. Therefore, an extra channel or extra stereo (6/7) channel or even a phono input channel (like the Yamaha mentioned above) might be useful for the likes of me Smile

On this forum there's a wish list for what you would like to be included in a revised T1.

For me, 6 channels and a footswitch for FX on/off whilst making announcements would be just fine.

I think making a much larger unit would defeat the object, but 6 channels would still be compact etc etc. I reckon it's gotta come soon!

A six channel option might be nice. Everyone in my band is multi-instrumental. For one of us in particular, 4 channels isn't enough. She is always borrowing a channel on a different T1.

So yes, a 6 channel T1 would be something we would buy.

This is why I would never get rid of My Classic L1's

With a T1 I really now have 7 inputs,
4 on the Tonematch plus 3 more on the powerstand and 2 of those with presets and EQ on the remote, we use these for our backing, Bass panned Left Drums panned right, and we can then EQ separately on the remote.

I would think more connections on the Model 2 base would have been better

Cheers All
