Just wondering how much equipment would be needed to accomodate our church band. We have three vocalists, two guitars, drums, two guitars and two keyboards. One of those keyboards could be switched with one guitar I switch from one to the other using mainly guitar. The church is old with very high ceilings and the ceilings and walls are lined with tin. We currently go through a 24 channel digital mixer and are using power amps for monitors which is a very poor arrangement. Here is a link to see our set up:

Thanks for your input.

Hi Candy,

Thanks for your post.

From your description and the picture I got this layout. Does this look right to you?

I gave you the red Keyboard.

Hi again Candy,

Well I think yours is the first web site I've seen in a very long time that had a web cam of the parking lot.

I forgot to mention that you can click on the Sketch in the previous post, and move things around with your mouse. Then save the changes (you will see a button to do that), and I will post your new Sketch here.

Thanks for telling us about the high ceilings and the walls. Fortunately, the Bose L1™ System works really well in these kinds of spaces.

I couldn't tell from the web site, but roughly how big is that room where we see you playing (in your picture). I am looking for a rough estimate of the width and depth of the space.

Are there any interesting architectural features like alcoves or balconies?

How many people will be sharing your music?

Do you (The Praizinets) ever travel, or do you primarily perform in that setting in your picture?

That web cam was originally to see the progress of a new addition but since completion it somehow got turned around toward the parking lot. Poor man's security system??????

I did send a slightly modified sketch. I also did not mention that the drums do not have a mic.

I am really bad an estimating size but the church holds approximately 450 people if full to capacity. It goes have a balcony along the all the walls except the one shown in the picture of the band. The side balcony is narrow, approximately 5 feet wide and the one on the opposite end is slightly larger...I'm guessing about 6-7 feet and contains space for the choir, a pipe organ in the center and the sound and video equipment set up in the opposite corner. Those balconies create alcoves in each of the four corners. Right now we have our main speakers on the balcony to the right and left of us which makes the sound too loud upstairs and not loud enough downstairs. We are using powered amps as monitors but the people doing the sound are in the balcony and they cannot adjust the sound because it is too loud up there.

Our group does not travel (but could in the future) but we do have to break all of the equipment down and store it and set it all back up before the service.

If it would be helpful I could take photos of the church architecture tomorrow night and send them to you on Friday.

I think that answers all of your questions. I will see if I can get exact dimensions from a tech person tomorrow also.

Not sure exactly what you meant by how many people would be sharing the music. As far as how many people performing music it is usually all of us, but if you question was about attendance, the answer right now is probably 100-125 people. We are growing and hoping that continues though.

Our future plan would be to also allow the two guitar players and one piano player to sing at times but that is the distant future.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Candy,

Here is your revised Sketch. Thanks for doing that.

I swapped in a 12 String Guitar for Bill Lane.

You chose some specific microphones - what do you have?

The thought had crossed my mind.

Okay - I will take that into account when we get into the details. For a space that can hold 450, I might consider putting a microphone on the Kick Drum.

Do people sit up in the balconies very often?
All the time?

Pictures of the balconies (as viewed from the stage area) would be good.

Great - that is what I needed to know.

That would be very helpful. It would be great to get a shot from the stage area facing into the main space. Another one from the back of the room would be helpful.

That would be great!

Sorry - I could have phrased that better, but you got it. Thanks.

It actually started out as Candy and the Praizinets but I took my name out of the mix. Thanks for your comment!

I'm not sure of the brand names on the mics but our main singer uses one that is similar to the picture and the other two singers who now currently share a channel have ones like the black ones. All are wireless and I know the main singer goes through a transmitter box at the other end of the room.

I will get specific brand names tonight when I go to rehearsal, along with pictures of the architecture.

I'm still working on getting the dimensions of the church. The silver microphone is a Shure wireless and it goes through a separate receiver. The other two are Sennheisers. I tried to send a zip file with photos of the church but I guess I have to send them one by one. Thanks for your help.
