Hi Zepp,

Which model of Multiac?

Are you using a synthesizer or virtual guitar module?

I couldn't find anything about a this model.

I asked what model you had because there are so many kinds of Godin Multiacs, and I was hoping that someone here would have the model that you have, and would be able to make some suggestions.

I think that there are a couple of people here who have Godin multiacs but from what I remember they have the nylon-stringed versions AND at least one of them was using it primarily for the synth access.

I use the Roland pickup system with a few of my guitars, and if you were using the synth access I would have had some suggestions about that.

We're all volunteers in this part of the forum.

While you are waiting for someone who has some related experience to reply, you can try scrolling through the T1® Acoustic Guitar Presets. (I looked back at your previous posts and saw that you have a T1®. Is that still the case?)

I just picked up an acoustic electric guitar that is not on the Preset list and I went through the process of auditioning Presets. It doesn't take long.

Here is how I do it.

  1. Find a place where you can do this a full performance volume. If you do this at a low volume, things will sound different when you get to a gig and turn up the volume.

  2. Set the T1® gain staging (similar to the way I set the gain for a microphone - see notes below). Basically you want to set the trim so that you NEVER see the trim lights turn red. Flickers of yellow are okay.

  3. Turn off all effects.

  4. Set all zEQ bands to Bypass.

  5. Set ParaEQ to Bypass.

  6. Scroll through the Acoustic Guitar category of Presets. Because I sing when I play, I sing while auditioning the Presets. That gives me a better sense of how the Guitar and vocal parts will sound in the mix together.

If you play with other people you will may end up preferring different Presets for different situations depending on where you want the guitar to sit in the mix. For example, I tend to go for fuller-range sounds when I'm playing solo, and more mid-range and highs when I'm playing with others.

  7. Try the Taylor Guitar Presets. There are some interesting Presets in that category that distinguish between body styles and whether you are strumming or playing fingerstyle.

  8. I have a small field recorder that I use to record the process. This makes it easier to hear and compare the Presets later.

  9. After I find a couple of Presets that I like I fine tune if necessary, using the zEQ or ParaEQ.

Does that help?

Gain Staging hints follow below the line.

Gain Staging a Microphone with the T1®

Please watch the short video below. It is for the Model I, but the principles are the same.

Unfortunately there is no video for doing this on the T1® but the ideas are equally applicable.

Use the same microphone technique Steve describes in the video.

The colors on the T1® are a little different because the T1® trim uses 3 colors. You want to have a good solid green signal with occasional flickers of yellow.

If you are seeing flickers of red, turn down the trim.

For more detailed notes see: T1® Gain Staging.

I have a Multiac Spectrum Steel SA. I have not tested the presets as I dont really use the guitar live with my bose rig. However, i could fire it up and see what I think sounds good if you are having trouble getting started. Did you run through the presets yet? What did you find that you liked? What about downloading some of the newer presets and testing those?
