I purchased a set of used L1s a few weeks ago and I've been using them at some of our most recent gigs and I've noticed a few things that I thought I would share with the users here.
A few of the cons: 1. No compression warning (you never know when you're hitting the limit of the system). 2. The L1s become very directional at higher frequencies (above 6 kHz) making them less useful for recorded music. I set them up side by side with my Mackie C300z and I found that the Mackie speakers had a far more even frequency pattern over its nominal dispersion pattern (mostly attributed to its multi-cell horn construction) whem compared to the L1. As I wander from side to side in front of the L1, the high frequencies seem to "disappear". The Pros: 1. Easy set up. I love the fact that I don't have to throw a speaker on a stand. 2. Perfect portable PA system for announcments/speakers. 3. Very narrow vertical directivity great for venues that have shallow ceilings. Overall...I like this system...but this high frequency beaming is really bugging me am I the only one that has noticed this? ~wavesound September 17, 2006~ full thread here |
