Thought I would give some feedback on a recent gig...
This past Saturday, my daughter and I (flute and keyboard duo) did a 3-hour performance for a charity event. My daughter works for a non-profit organization that provides camps during the summer for special kids and they were having a fund raiser in which a small contribution would allow folks to tour a number of old, vintage homes in the Clarkston, Michigan area. We were situated on the porch of this beautiful old home that was part of the tour. The porch had these gigantic pillars and it was kind of neat how, if you were going by on the street, the Bose tower would visually disappear and re-appear. It was a rather narrow porch, so we had the L1 at one end, then my keyboard, and then my daughter who was miked up to the Bose. The forecast was for scattered thunder showers, so just in case, I had purchased some rain-proof coverings for my keyboard and the L1 (they were actually covers designed for a patio umbrella and a chaise-lounge). As it turned out we somehow dodged the rain for the entire three hours even though it looked very threatening at times. The house was just off a busy main street/highway where the cars were going 40-45 mph and there was a steady stream of traffic the whole time. In addition, they were traveling over wet pavement which, as you can imagine, just added to the background noise level. In spite of this, from time to time I would notice that even people driving by were looking out their windows as though they could hear the music long before they reached where we were and were wondering where the music was coming from. At one point I noticed some folks a couple of houses down - and well on the other side of the street - came out and sat on their porch to listen to a "free concert." It was as if they could hear us fine in spite of the barrier of traffic in between us. We received many nice compliments from folks passing by on their way into touring the house. But what amazed me were comments like: "We could hear you all the way down the street!" And: "The whole neighborhood is filled with sound." I know I shouldn't be amazed by this time, especially with all the stories I've read on this site...but I still can't help being impressed, especially since we just had everything set on the L1 for a very comfortable volume level for us on that porch. We have had nice compliments playing at intimate indoor settings even before we got the L1...but it really gives us a satisfying feeling of professionalism knowing that for larger or outdoor venues, we can be confident in the combination of quality and power that the Bose system delivers. -David A, June 05, 2007 Full Thread Here |
