This may be a better topic for the Vdrums forum but since you asked it here I will give you my .02

IMO the TD12 is a good kit, if your going to play live then the sound system you use will become more important than the kit.
I own a TD20 and it works well for most styles of music. If your drummer has not played the E-kit before then that may be a problem.
Some acoustic drummers hate E-kits.

It takes me longer to set up my kit than it does the acoustic drummer to set up his.
Maybe I am slow but usually it takes about 45 minutes for me to be ready to play, once the stuff is out of the car.

It's hard to say if your doing the right thing, that depends upon your application and sound system. I can say that if one of your goals is complete control over the sound level of your band and if that is a very important thing then the E-kits provide that. The drummer is no longer so loud that the rest of the band has to crank it up. The sound you will get is more like recorded music, only live.

The Bose system works great with E-kits in small to medium venues, and the drummer will hear every nuance of the kit.
