I started out 40 years ago playing acoustic folk music in coffee houses. For the last ten years I have been in a 3 to 4 piece band fighting the constant battle of trying to know what our sound is like without a sound man, just a PA with mains and monitors, and taking turns listening from the audience area while setting up. I'm very close to a purchase of a Bose L1/PS1/B1 after hearing one at a large room venue. It is truly unbelievable good at putting even sound throughout a large room. The new current group will probably be a duo. Both doing vocals, one playing acoustic/electric or electric guitar, and one on electric bass, acoustic/electric bass or acoustic/electric guitar. I currently record to my laptop with a nice condenser mike run through a small mixer (to give the mike phantom power). Could we avoid all these elaborate hookups and just play in front of the condenser mike only (using amps as needed for the instruments)? Or should I just face facts and realize I'm doomed to lots of hooking up at the beginning of (and during-while changing instruments)each gig. Thanks for all input in advance.
