Take your pick, any two 15" + horn, limit yourself to 30 lbs. of conventional amp, mixer, other processing, speaker stands and case to house it in. Place the equipment in any 1500 to 2500 sq. feet of space, side by side with the PAS. I can sound better with my double B1 PAS in 10 minutes than any sound man can do in an hour with the conventional equipment.
I don't recall ever leaving a concert or live music venue and rating how good the sound was by the intensity of the "chest tumping kick". I do recall a Hank Jr. show in Rupp Arena several years back that the chest thumping kick of his opening number was so intense it set in motion events that caused me to lose consciousness. Fans around me were cheering thinking that I was drunk or high, and my date (now my wife) was in a panic, knowing I was perfectly straight and thinking I was dying, and no one would help. It is not neccessary to be thumped in order to have a good listening experience. While the price of equipment may represent the potential of the reproduction quality of said equipment, it is not now, or will it ever be, a proper measure of how good the sound really is. My PAS was worth every penny. I haven't really kept count but I would guess that by now (after 18 months of use) it has about paid for itself in gigs I probably would not have taken without it. - Oldghm, March 17, 2006 - full thread here |
