I live for sound reinforcement and it is what I do full time. I had the chance to work with one of the greatest jazz/blues guitar players of all time, Paul Jackson Jr. He was performing in a small -360 seat venue. His opening acted was a local jazz/funk group who brought a PAS system with them. I had Paul Jr's band mic'ed and going through and "traditional" PA system and the opening act wanted to use their Bose system. I didn't stop them.

The opener was a 5 piece and each memeber had a PAS stick with a whole lot of the bass mods. They said that the whole venue would be filled with sound and that Paul Jr's band should use their system as well because, according to them, it was the greatest thing to hit live music. I said "no thanks" and left Paul Jr's going through the house PA.

So the opener set their PAS stuff up and went on with their sound check... WOW, I never heard a kick drum or bass guitar sound so weak! I moved myself all around the venue going from side to side and top to bottom. The band sounded different in every spot. At that point I tryed to talk the opening act in to using the house PA... They didn't move on it, insisting that it was going to sound great.

The show went on and the opener did their set. With a sold out house of about 350 people indoors there Bose system did not hold up. Paul Jackson band went on and sounded great with chest tumping kick, bass, and sexy smooth guitar and sax. 2 members from the opening act had 2nd thoughts about the Bose system.

I can say after this show I was reminded why Bose means "Bring Other Sound Equipment". Bose should become a marketing company.

Anyone thinking of buy Bose either from home or pro use should "really" A/B them with equipment at the same PRICE point. And if possible try them out in a real world setting, not the sales floor of Guitar Center.
