Coupe DeVille did gig#2 with four PAS units in a better room than that the corner stage sheet-rock noisy room (see Outfitting the Band, Mar5 entry). This time stage was in the middle, we had 7-10 ft. between us and our respective PAS's. Many positive comments.
drums, electric guitar, keyboards, bass, female vocal, 5 -singers all-together, moocho harmonies. Some constructive criticism included: "your voices could stand to come up another notch." After discussion, we all thought that what we heard on the stage was GREAT ! we could here everything we wanted to here, and all of us thought we heard the vocal blend just fine. the guitarist and I both found that we could back WAY off the mic when singing background harmonies and still here and blend to our satisfaction. basically criticism came from musicians and/or technical people. but I took it all for what is was worth, some things can be fixed easily simply by altering procedure or mic placement. several people mentioned the clean stage appearance and the fact that there was no place on the dance floor where they got there head blown off if you got in front of a speaker or near a monitor...several people used terms like "the sound was even wherever we were in the room,"... sitting at a table in back or on the dancefloor in front of the band. now I'm wondering how these will work outside with no FX on the voices... We have already canceled the sound company for gig#3, we're that confident with the system. All band mates are being open minded to suggestions and are trying to play with "new" ears, as far as blending and leaving headroom for featured instrument or voices. the bassist and guitarist neither are familiar with playing thru Pods, but are taking to 'em very open mindedly, and with positive endeavor. at sound check, with empty room, I thought bass was way too loud and too midrangy. I seemed unable to hear my keyboards and kept boosting. someone mentioned that the keys were real loud, ...anyway as the room filled up and people danced, those issues went away, i liked what i heard, I think we blended well. If the dancers heard what we were hearing, and that's what it's all about, i think we sounded good to everyone. i just have a concern about getting our vocals up that notch. aside from trying to get us to turn the instruments down a notch, we need to tweak things out to get vocals up a little more. We all still need to get used to the idea that we don't have to blast to make sure the people in the back can hear. that'l take a bit getting used to. Too bad for other people that want to use our system, none of them seem able to get on the mic and project their stinking anouncements; there's no one to ride the slider anymore. too bad. - KC, March 14, 2006 - full thread here |
