I got my L1 earlier this month and played my first gig last week with the system. I only took one bass module (I got two) since it was at the Cantab Lounge's slam poetry reading.
We used the PA for the open mic and the music before/between the poets. Sometimes I'd add some music to the Slam Master's announcements. They're looking to replace the current PA (scary) that they use in the basement area where the reading is held. Everyone enjoyed it (having me there to DJ was the first time the Cantab's had music with their reading) and the sound was amazing. I had plenty of bass with the single module - it might have been because it was set on a short, wooden stage. After the reading, one of the local poets came up and was commenting on the DJ setup and how much it had changed the dynamic of the event. Then he mentioned that "it even seemed like it sounded better than it usually does." I pointed out that they were using a new PA. The tower was at the back of the stage and a bit to one side of the mic (which is center stage). He actually turned and looked at it, and then got back and talked on the mic to see it *and* hear it. Yes, the whole stage area is painted black, but it's funny that everyone's staring at the performer (and maybe noticing the DJ with all the stuff) and they didn't "spot the L1" - too funny. I guess that's the ultimate compliment - the sound was good enough for a casual observer to note the "sounds better" but the system is so unobtrusive that they don't notice until it's pointed out. Looking forward to being a part of the Cantab's reading going forward - and it's great using the new system. I thought more than once about how much easier it is to load the parts in the car - no more big, ugly speakers or heavy-on-one-side amplifiers. -DJ Muse, July 16, 2007 Full Thread Here |
