Hi there,
I can really relate to what Edpas is talking about. I'm sure everyone who uses this Bose system, after the initial adjustment period, goes through this experience of all of a sudden thinking " Wow, so that's really what I sound like". I remember when this first hit me I sent in a post comparing it to shaving in a steamed up mirror then suddenly the mirror clears and you find that your face is covered in nicks from not having a good, clear image. To get back on to the topic... I play a lot of reggae music. I am a one-man with a looper performer and this is one type of music where the 'gaps' between the sounds are not just important but absolutly necessary. I fell in love with the whole feel and special beat of reggae and some African beats when I was about 11 years old. What was there about this sound that made it instantly recognisable as reggae? ...................., that's exactly it - the spaces between, This is especially true when listening to the bass lines.Listening to a good reggae bass part is an excellent example of the 'interstus' phenomena that Edpas mentioned earlier. I am now feeling very comfortable using my Bose system on gigs and as I build up the reggae music layer by layer I quite often save the bass till near the last. It is the bass line that brings everything together, like the last piece in a jig-saw. There is always a temptation to ' fill in' the gaps but it kind of gives you a feeling of power to leave them spaces. I'm sure that in reggae music it is the listeners subconcious desire to fill in these spaces that drives people to dance. I know when I play it is impossible to stand totally still as these 'drop offs' occur. I apologise for the ramble here but I have never tried to put into words why this type of music appeals to me but I know a big part of it is the parts where the music isn't. In the words of Bob Marley, " One love" Gordon. ~DAKTARI, October 15, 2006~ full thread here |
