Hello friends.
I recently played a gig in a bar/restaurant that I had to tell you about. Where they had me setup, I could not have fit a typical triple system, no way, no how. It was a very live room with hardwood floors, tall ceilings, a 6' high glass partition directly behind me separating the bar from the dining area. The bar was about 12' in front of me and about 35' long. There was a table to my left that I could reach out and touch from where I was standing, a full bar and a full dining area behind me. I was nervous about how it would sound even with my L1 given the fact that I had an area of 5' x 6' to setup. I wound up standing right next to the PS1 about a foot ahead of it...I mean it was TIGHT! Smile The night couldn't have gone better! People right next to me were carrying on a conversation in a normal tone of voice, not at all concerned about volume. The folks in back of me in the dining area said the sound was incredible - very even and pleasant and plenty loud. Here's the coolest part: The owner of the restaurant owned another venue in which I played for 12 years using a typical triple system. I asked her at the end of the night how she thought it sounded with the new PA. She said, and I quote: "Andy, it was amazing! Everyone could hear, no one, NO one was complaing about it being too loud or too soft anywhere in the restaurant or bar. Honestly, I don't know why everyone doesn't buy one of those things, it's the best thing I've ever heard!" Then she cut me a check for $50 more than what we had contracted for and booked me once per month for the next 6 months. The next day she called me to let me know that for the first time ever, about a dozen or so people had called up to thank her for the wonderful time they had, and what a pleasure it was to have live music that didn't ruin the evening with its volume. This is by far, the best investment I have ever made in any musical equipment I have purchased in 30 years. Thank you. Andy ~acousticaoc September 17, 2006~ Full thread here |
