First report:
Went to a local guitar shop, bought the most expensive instrument cable I've ever paid for (Klotz), and a new mic stand for the T1 to reside (which I highly recommend, having everything in reach to tweak - even during songs - is too good not to have). Set up Saturday night a few hours before the show just to see how it's going to feel...Setup was easy - it didn't take long to get acclimated to the controls. (You've set up sound before, pretty intuitive on what does what.) plugged into channel 3 of my L1 Classic (coming up on 3 years!), wound up setting it just below "4" on the channel 3 fader instead of "2", volume just dictated for my setup (Ibanez Electric/Acoustic, Tacoma Thunderchief Acoustic Bass, SM58, & SM57). I like to keep my master volume on the T1 around the 1 to 2 o'clock position. The Ibanez really adapted quickly (Acoustic/Steel String w/Piezo), and my guitar player finally got a little FX on his guitar. For once, he was "tone happy". The Tacoma (Upright w/Fishman) was fun to play with, adding a little compression. As we played through the night after the initial mic setup for each of our Shures, it was great to bump a little EQ without a major hassle. No sooner could you say "I need some more volume, more high end and less mids" than it was done before you started the next song. I even recorded with the AUX out channel (Pre w/ EQ and FX)to a CD recorder I haven't been able to use in years. I've only listened to part of one CD, but I can tell I had too much bass - something we adjusted for later - but it still sounded 10x better than anything we have ever recorded! The compression really let me attack the bass, and now will teach me when to lay off. After a little more tweaking, we'll be able to get those live cuts for our new CD by the end of Summer. The MUTE per each channel was great to have. Sometimes I like to belt out a little Rick Springfield (...what?) or Dobie Gray and play ROCK STAR for a few minutes. (sorry 'bout the Springfield, but you should see how chicks still dig that "Hard to Hold" Soap Star's tune "Jesse's Girl"!) Saved the SCENE several times during the night after several tweaks - between songs. Used Small Reverb globally and even then took the MIX down to around 20%. Am I disappointed with anything? Just my bass playing...if anything, the L1 has made me a better live player - now I have to step it up even more with the T1! This steps up our game even more. Now we can work out more nuances than before. I'm not saying it will make you a better person, but my teeth are whiter and my breath is continually minty fresh!...maybe not. But as we say around here, "If you are not moving forward, you're backin' up!" Still giddy as a school girl, Tracey -Heavyjoe, July 09, 2007 Full Thread Here |
