Has anyone tried this? I know I've seen people play electronic sets out of the Bose, but I'm wondering how it will sound if I preprogrammed the drums, and used my laptop as the drummer.

Thanks for any help!
Brandon

Hi Brandon, and welcome to the forums.
Superior Drummer should sound "superior" thru your L1.

I recently got a copy of EZ Drummer Lite (entry level for S.D.) with Presonus's Studio One Artist multi-track recording software. The beats sound fantastic thru all of my studio monitors, including the L1 Model II. I've been debating on buying the full version of SD and using my Laptop as sound source for my TrapKAT instead of the Roland TD-12.

I would be very interested in hearing more about how its working for you.

Thanks for the reply Drumr! I'm actually in the process of putting my new live setup together.

Solo ACT:
Complete Solo Performance

I'm pre-recording 'real' instruments and performing covers live as a one man band. Not a new idea by any means, but still something that sounds like a heck of a lot of fun to me.

I've had a strict budget for the past 2 years and will soon (May 2011) finally have enough to purchase two L1-II Dual Bass setup. After a lot of research this is still my first option for a PA system.

Though I still have yet to find a lot of information about setting this configuration in Stereo, and controlling the complete mix through my DAW - Cubase. If you've got any experience with this or anything else to mention, it would be much appreciated!

Just saw this thread. I have used Superior Drummer 2 (running on MacBook) through a classic L1 and it is incredibly realistic. The kicks go lower than the B1 can handle, but sounds "chest thumpy" enough, even better with two B1s. The built-in mixer will let you set up any amount of room mic, overhead level, even fx on any channel....very versatile.

As you may know, SD2 has plenty of MIDI loops played by various pros, so you can assemble any tune arrangement you want. I also picked up the Vintage set of kits/samples, which I like for the stuff I do more than the bundled Avalon recordings. You can also use the EZ Drummer kits with it (though they won't give you the full meal deal with the mixer and X-Drum settings).

What a hoot!

Im a huge fan of Addictive drums from XLN audio. I'm a snob for quality anything and use a rosewood sonor set with a very nice bronze snare as my acoustic kit. These match that best.

Everything else I've found is really about tons & tons of kits and less about extremely good sounding kits. Check it out, no reason not to use both.

I'm considering moving to SD2 from the TD20. Does the Alesis trigger work well or should I look at other options too? The SD2 website provides minimum PC requirements but what do I really need to make this option sound and operate the best? What is the experience like playing live with this option vs any of the Roland, Yamaha or other similar type drum brains out there?

While I don't use Superior Drummer 2 for live applications, I would love to. I use it exclusively for recording. I have never heard more realistic drums in the box. The depth of samples, left and right hand at so many different dynamic levels. I replace recorded drums with these samples. When you play them alone you can hear the room. I wish I could get the drummers in the bands I
play in to use electronic drums loaded with these samples. From what I understand, the new e-kits from pearl have a brain that will accept 3rd party samples and they apparently have superior on board. The same is true of the new DM10 kits from Alesis although from what I understand the superior kit is in the pipe but not here yet.
The convenience and flexibility of e-drums is obvious the difficulty is getting realistic drums sounds. IMO superior 2 is the answer.

what setup do you use for the triggers on the recording sessions? IS SD2 loaded on a laptop or desktop for the recording session? Mac or PC? Any experience to share with how stable/unstable the SD2 software is?
