I have to share this with the forum. Had a large gig (250ppl) this past weekend at a Sheraton in Md. about 60 miles from the home front. Never played here before never met any of the staff either. Was doing a sound check when the event coordinator approached me, complimented on the Bose set up, asked me for the wedding line up list. She came back after making copies and proceeded to tell me that "She is the coordinator and I am nothing more than a record player"!WHAT!?! I responded with a polite "excuse me?" she repeated it!! Wow I was floored, this lady just insulted 24 years of experience without even hearing the first song!! My partner was trying to hold his laughter (snorting type) which got us both laughing so hard we couldn't even talk. Well, this irritated the "coordinator" big time, she was in a huge huff so bad you could even see it in her walk.
I pulled my contact information and found she was the banquet coordinator and her boss was someone else. I was beside myself, the groom mentioned how she told him that everything was to be done by way of her. He asked me about this and I told him we will do exactly as we had previously worked out and that I would take care of her. Come to find out the Groom had summoned the boss to complain about this lady. Not to make anymore waves I let her do her thing as long as it didn't interfere with the bride and groom's wishes we had previously made. The main boss did come down to see how things were going, I told him what his staff said, and he hit the ceiling! Called this "lady" into the kitchen and wore her out. She did come back with the boss at her side, and apologized for her rudeness and assured it wouldn't happen anymore this evening. Unbelievable! I didn't know the whole story till the next day when the groom called to apologize for the lady, apparently she had said some bad things about me to the couple as soon as they sat down for dinner. What she didn't know was the bride and groom had heard my gigs at the club, and I did the groom's sisters wedding last year. The gig went great, the Bose did the job, and a tip of $100.00 was added to the total. What a day that was! |

Alittle late in response since I just became a member but I have had a few things close to this happen. One person I actually showed them my contract on computer and my wedding planner on my computer. Told them this is how the bride and groom want things done. If you want to do it dofferently I suggest you tell the bride and groom you don't want to do things their way. When you are done come and see me.
I did this one time and totally tee'd off the co ordinator. She came up later and appologized and said she was wrong. I told you the proper way to handle it would have been ''could we exchange notes on the order of events for the evening'' It won't happen often but it does. It doesn't help them any that I do have a certain confidence in what I do. call it arrogance but I hold my ground and I will always come on top. Why because I have it on contract what they want to do. But yes your story is somewhat offbase |
