When I sent in my damaged Classic to Bose, it was apparently unrepairable and I was sent back a new or refurbished Classic with a blue B1 collar.

When I went to update the presets to 3.0, I once again was faced with the dreaded blinking red LED.

I used the same CD that my previous Classics were updated with. I also burned a new one. Neither worked.

Can anyone report success with a blue collar, Classic update?

I've done it. Perhaps your refurb was already 3.0 updated?

I'm told by Bose that it was not updated. The preset insert is for 2.0 also.

Just for kicks, I ran the 2.0 update and it worked. But when I tried 3.0, flashing green and then red.

Well ... My wife just happened to have a DVD player in her car from an even she was working ... So I decided to give the update another go. SUCCESS!!!

The DVD player I was using that did not successfully update was a Sony DVP SR200P. The one from my wife's car was a Phillips DVP 5992/37. For what it's worth, I did my initial update on my Classics with a Harmon Kardon DVD player.

re: update worked

Great news.

... now, is the player which did NOT work a newer, fancier model? Often a simple CD player works best.

I don't know if it is newer, since I am not sure who old the Phillips one is. But it definitely is not fancier.

I think I just paid about $40 for it, because I just needed to replace a broken one. I'm shopping around for a Blu-Ray and didn't see the need to spend that much on a standard DVD player.
