Could you please say more about the "ground issues"? What's up?

Have you talked to the people in L1 Support?

DH,
this system is great, but they are in no way replacing my M2's. there are just some smaller events that the M2 is WAY more than needed. For a mult-op like me, I now have some choices where i can send the right equipment for the right show. But no way would I only have this as my main unit.

You said that you wouldn't hesitate to use it for a smaller party - what do you think about having it as a back up system/unit?

I have 2 JBL G2 10" Eons at the moment that I use for ceremony and cocktail duty when necessary. I have 2 Model II's that I set up for the main reception area. I don't know, I was just thinking that maybe one of these might be a good addition in my arsenal as well. The mixer on there looks great.

I would think this would be an adequate back up for most emergencies. It really does depend on the size of the event, though

Dig the Wall-E figure. I'm very interested on how this unit will stack up to it's bigger brothers in terms of over all volume & clarity
playing the same musical data???

I've only played it in my house, simply plugging an ipod into it. Wow! It rocks!.

Great news Scott...I wasn't expecting to see this thing be such a hit with the DJs!

DJ Xtro, thanks for those excellent pictures, seeing the L1 Compact in a home next to the Model II really brings out it's potent image.

Well I got the ground hum out.

Testing Time! 1 hour

I AM A DJ! :P
Using a 320k mp3
Handheld Digital Recorder/Player
Using RCA input on the L1 Compact
Files used
Lady Gaga - Poker Face
Rihanna - Bad Girl
Prodigy - Omen
Pearl Jam - Brother
Frank Sinatra - Just The Way You Look Tonight
Gypsy Kings - Marina

Highs and mids are good, the bass is muffled or non existent.
Maybe add a packlite and a bass module? But then again, that would defeat the compact purpose.

Definitely cannot compare to the L1 Model 2
Good use for extra small gigs. Could be great for vocal presentation, wedding ceremony, back ground music that are not bass heavy.

You are better off keeping the L1s than buying two of these.

These are my first impression using the L1 Compact in my house.

Will let everyone know when I use it on an actual gig.

Thanks for listening! You dont have to go home but you cant Stay Here!

Thanks, Scott, that takes me a long way and like I said before a larger diamond costs considerably more. May be able to live with my investment yet.

last night, i decided to bring the L1c system with me as a back up to my model 2 for a wedding. The original planner called for 160 people. When I got there, only spaces for 120. The hall person said there was no alcohol being served, so he thought there may even be less than that.

having both systems with me, i decided to hook up the compact to see how it sounded in the hall. It sounded excellent. I then (a little bit nervously) decided to try using the compact for the event, having my model 2 as a back up.

I hooked up a t1 to it(the t1 is also my sound card). plenty of mic volume. music sounded excellent.

Throughout the evening, not a ton of dancing, but it was plenty loud enough for the crowd. Tons of compliments.

The room was rectangle. I think about 68 feet by 76. I counted the ceiling tiles(I assumed them to be 4x2) the tiles were 17 by 38.

at the loudest part, the compact channel 2 was at 1 oclock (50 %). the t1 main volume was at 12(40%) and channel 4/5(my computer trim) was at 9oclock(25%). my computer output on ots was at 50%

it was green with a red clip here and there. I am sure with some tweaking, i could get it louder without clipping

walking around the dance floor, it was plenty loud enough. walking in the back of the hall, I could hear a much more noticeable drop off in volume that I wouldn't get with the model 2 or model 1, but for this crowd, it was simply not needed.

I would not hesitate to use this system again for parties up to this size. I also will always have one as a back up. At least from what I know now, I don't think I would use it as a main system for a party any bigger than this. But we do plenty of smaller parties like this

But, after one event, I see this system getting a lot more use than i envisioned when i bought it. Like I said before, I don't think its feasible for a DJ to have just one of these as their system. There will be too many times you'll need more than this can offer. But for the right situation, this is an incredible tool.

DJ X is the bass really that bad. From what I heard about it I thought the bast would be just as loud as a B1 but just more punchy. Have you done a side by side test with the L1C & your L1 Mod.2? I want to hear more... all the juicy details!Smile

Purchased 2 L1 compacts
Never had a L1 before (or seen one in action)
I do alot of Conferences, Wedding and Parties of all sizes. This is all at resorts in cottage country (great place to work)
Have used RCF speakers and Qsc Speakers with various Bins, amps & Boards with my DJ computer (nice sound)

All I can say is thank you BOSE for the quality
and sound. 90 percent of my gigs will be done with the 2 L1 Compacts averaging 150 to 200 people.

12 years of being only a DJ (no day job) except for taking care of my 2 and 4 year old girls
has brought me to this point of in my life
With Bose giving me this "easy setup and great sound." has made my nights a little easier and fun

(I average 157 Resort gigs a year not including Bar setups) thanks for listen

I got mine!!!! I spent 2 days with it & here are my thoughts:

First off this thing is amazing! It is truly a work of art & a joy to listen to. Bose you guys have really out done your selves this time!

The unit has a very good amount of bass= not as low as a B1 but more tight & punchy so it makes up for that.

When I showed it to my wife & she said and I quote "who ever said this thing has no bass should be shot!" Then she said "if this thing has no bass then what's shaking my pants and rattling everything in the room?"
Smile
It is very easy to use and it's extremely portable plus it sounds soooooo clear! It is also very loud for it's size. I all ready have a nick name for it. I call it my noisy cricket!

In all it's a definitely a winner!

Good work Bose!

>I have yet to use it in a gig I'll report back later.

Awesome is the word. I used my compact in adjoining room using my Phonic digital wireless. They had these plants with the huge green leaves. There was one on either side of the compact so it was almost completely hidden. Wish I had a camera with me. Sound was beautiful and the source was a mystery to some.

Used my L1c for a ceremony yesterday...absolutely flawless performance, clear and crisp, almost invisible, quick setup and teardown...I was getting compliments on the "plain-jane" background music at the ceremony! If you are thinking about this, don't hesitate. It is the perfect ceremony system.

Possibly a common mistake. I was playing some music yesterday afternoon for a while while I was doing the dishes & after the 4Th song I decided that It didn't sound quite right. I couldn't put my finger on what it was that sounded wrong so I walked over to inspect the compact. That's when I saw it. I had accidentally flipped the guitar switch on when taking it off the cover or when setting it up. I flipped it back to line & presto it was back to it's old Big Grin self pumping out beautiful music.

Heads up to all check the switch.

This thread just cost me a thousand dollars!

I did an outdoor wedding ceremony on Sat with one Model 1, my laptop, a T1 and a pair of AKG wireless rcvrs with lav mics. The ceremony was in a gazebo on a pond about 150 yards from parking so I hand trucked everything to and from over a footbridge to the gazebo. OK, it’s only an L1 but I’m getting spoiled now.

I wanted to set up outside of the gazebo and out of the wedding pictures but threatening weather conditions had me moving in and out several times before the ceremony actually started. After all of this schlepping and all the positive info here about the L1c, I ordered one the following day.

I also picked up a “Duracell DPP-600HD Powerpack 600 Jump Starter” for a silent power source. In the next few days I plan to test it with both the L1c and a Model 1. I'll let you know how it works and how long I can play music with each.

I've used mine at 3 jobs so far and also am loving it. at two of the jobs I was at a 2 story venue, and needed upstairs fill since the 2 L1s, 4 B1s downstair don't do not send sound up. When I first went to the venue I didn't have the L1c yet and thought I would either have to haul in my 3rd L1 and a B1, or setup a Mackie 450. The L1c work so great and is so light and easy to setup, and covered the upstairs area perfectly.

The other use was at a reception where a small ball plugged into my system. They were setup beside me and back a little bit so they could not hear themselves. I setup the L1c as a monitor for them, they loved it, I think they will be buying the L1 systems soon. My next application will be for a cocktail hour. Since it so small I carry it with all the time now just in case I need it or just want to show it.

I have a small party later in the year and may use just the L1c alone.

Love this speaker, wish I had it before I bought my 3rd L1M1, still have a couple of reception/ceremony/cocktail gigs where all will be needed, but I think the 3rd L1 will be staying at home more now. Will be selling my pair of Mackie 450s now, I see no use for them anymore.

Love it

Just a little disappointed...
Got my Compact and the sound coming out of that little thing is incredible. My wife, Katja, was disappointed to learn she could not use her (very popular with vocalists) Neumann KMS 105 condenser mic without running it through a mixer or a T1 for Phantom power. Did I miss something here?

Using the Compact as highly portable PA was one of the selling points I pushed to gain her approval for the purchase. Now it's not quite as convenient as we thought but we still love it.

I will have to take a look at the musician section of the forum to find out what professional musicians (singers) are saying and doing about having no phantom power.
