Not happy with L1 model one

Hi i found this site about four years ago and after reading post i purchased twoo L1 model !'s eight b1s and two pack lites for mobile dj use. Last nite i had a suprise bday party gig for around 75 people.
I set up 2 model ones and four b1s and all was well.
before the guets of honor arrived i notice one of the l1s stopped putting out any sound. The l1s were conacted to a numark mixdeck xlr to quater inch in channel 1 and preset 58.
the cylindrical radiators were not putting out but the two b1s were still playing. ithe power stand had a yellow lite on not green..
ipulled out a pack lite and attached the two b1s two the one working pwerstand and ran a second xlr to quarer inch cable from the mixdeck into channel two.
Gig went well with only one l1 and four b1s and a packlite.
Just dont understand why the powerstand failed. i also swapped radiaters after i got home and changed the fuse and trie w b1s aunattached and a different power cable.
Do L1's have a expiration date ? when they will fail and need service.
After reading post here it seems to be common for the powerstand to need service after a few years.
Anyone else here have had your l1 model one powerstand fail and need service? i am curious how did it turn out? Do you still trust them and think the L1s are good for your business?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have had to service a one of my L1 Model 1 Power Stands after 3 years of use. The unit was fixed after the warranty was expired for 250 + shipping & was back to me within eight days.

& Yes I still trust Bose L1's. Bose as for the company they stand by there products & have awesome tech support. Did I mention that not only will Bose fix the original problem, but they go through the entire unit & you get a new one year warranty on in! To me that is great! Name another company that does all this for it's clients???

BTW the other L1 Model 1 that was part of my original purchase is still going strong & it is now 3 1/2 years old.

I am proud to be able to be a L1 user & if occasionally I need to send in a unit costing me $275 with shipping (out of warranty) I feel that is a small price to pay for the quality & portability that the L1's deliver.

Thanks jd bass for sharing your thoughts. How's that 00 preset been working for you instead of 58?

Five years on my two L1 Classics and they've never let me down or skipped a beat. Best investment ever.

I purchased a used Classic more than 4 years ago and a new Model 1 shortly thereafter. Both are running strong. That said, It's probably time to send the Classic in for a little rehab.

Your issue could be the connectors where the radiators plug into the powerstand? There are some notes on the forum or wiki about this.

Let us know how it all works out.

I wondered if the stick was not quite seated properly, but the yellow light suggests it's an amp issue. A friend here in NZ had the same issue.

I've had a couple of problems with both my powerstands over the years, but they've probably had TWICE the amount of use that Richard's have. Just normal electronic break downs that could (and do) happen to system.

For what it's worth, for 75 guests you can easily get away with a single L1 with 2 B1s.

Thanks nick for your reply. I agree for most gigs of this size only one l1 is need.

This paticular vune was a warehouse whit high sealing that could easily hold 300 or more guest. I was offered to use the house install system which was qsc 18 inch subs and 3way 15 inc qsc haning from the sealing over the dance floor.

I wanted to use my one equipment 2 bose l1s and for b1's because i new they would disperse the sound windw i give a enough thump campered to the house system.

The venue was amazed at sound from the l1s and did not even notice that one l1 had died.

The l1s were much clearer than there system. the house system sounded muddy i dont think it was hooked up wright . i think the tops were running in full range in stead of hi pass.

Thanks for your reply nick.
I agree that one l1 would be enough for 75 people. Most of my gigs i use one l1 and either two or four b1s. The second l1 usally stays in the truck.

This venue was a warehouse with large ceiling and could easliy accomidate tree hundred or more guest.

The venue offred to let me use the house sound sytem which was qsc 18 pwrd subs and qsc prw 15 inch three ways hung from cieling over the dance floor.

I wanted to use my two l1s and four b1s because i thought it would dispers the sound wider and not just on the dance floor and have enough thump. i guess i just wanted to show off the bse system cmpared to the house system.

The venue u was amazed with nthe l1ssound and didnt even nitice that only one was working.

The house system sounded to muddy i think the top speakers were run in full range instead of high pass.

The bose sounded much better nice and clear and thump.

I think in the future i will use two l1s setup just in case one goes down. It would have been a pain « … » to have retrive the other l1 in the truck during a gig

Hi kevwebny,

I am sorry to read that your L1® disappointed you at a gig.

Have you tried it since that show? Is the Cylindrical Radiator® still silent?

Please check the connections in the Power Stand Boot (the well into which you place the Cylindrical Radiator® ).

There are pictures with notes about what to check in this article:

L1® Model I - No Sound - Damaged Connections in the L1® boot

Does that help?

Hi st I talked to service they think it's a amp issue cause the yellow lite is on . I did check the boot a swapped radiators with working l1. Yellow litte stayed on with noting attached.
Bose charged me 250 for service and 30$ for sipping . They even emailed the prepaid shipping label.
I just dropped off the power stand at a local ups store in it's original box. It was a painless transaction.
Hope to get it back soon.
I will be using some old jbl eon g2 tops and a jbl 18 inch powered sub until I get the powerstand back.
Don't wanna do gigs with just one l1 without back up.

I just got a L1 Mod 1 with 2 B1s...after reading this, I think I will bring one of my Compacts with me and keep it under the table for a back up.

I have a gig today and I will brave using only one l1 and two b1's. I will also bring a jbl eon g2 powered speaker and a tripod for back up. I am going to use the Bose this is a new client and I know they will be impressed with the Bose l1 sound.
I'm actually thinking about ordering a compact for back up.

And it sounds so sweet.
The input and out put section looks brand new. The boot area look new too all shiny and silver.
Looks like Bose makes a good product and gives greAt service. After four years of use Bose replaced all my componets in the powerstand and a new one year warranty.
I am very happy w/this product. For 25O it's a great deal!
