...but I am thinking of getting one Compact for outdoor receptions and cocktail hours.

I have one question, has anyone or can I hook(ed) up two wireless mics and an ipod to the compact?

I need one mic for the Minister, one for the couple and the ipod for intro/outro music. The music and the couples mic won't be at the same time. Can this be accomplished?

Thanks in advance for your responses...

Regards,
MusicDan

Hi MusicDan,

Good to see you.

You could do this:

  • Minister: Wireless Microphone #1 Receiver to Compact Channel 1 (XLR)

  • Couples: Wireless Microphone #2 Receiver to Compact Channel 2 ( ¼ inch jack )

  • iPod to Compact Channel 2 ( 1/8 inch stereo jack )

You would need to control the volume of the iPod on the iPod (relative to Wireless Microphone #2)

This presupposes that your wireless receivers have both ¼ inch jack and XLR outputs. Mine do.

You would have a ToneMatch® Preset for the microphone on Channel 1, but not on Channel 2. You would set the Compact Channel 2 ToneMatch Switch to "Line Level". I have done this before, and it's fine.

Does that help?

I have set up exactly as ST has, with excellent results as well.

I used a wireless headset mic into channel two, and it sounded fine without any EQ.

Thanks ST and Drummer. I have Shure PGX series wireless mics that have both XLR and 1/4". I plan to give the minister the headset, I do have two handhelds. Do you think it's a wise idea for the minister to have the headset or a handheld with a mic stand?

Hi MusicDan,

Is the headset microphone omni-directional or uni-directional?

How far away will the Compact be from the Minister? Can you reasonably predict that the Compact will be beside or ahead of the Minster and the Bride & Groom.

Oh - and I haven't been to a wedding in years (decades?). Is it unusual for a Bride & Groom to be holding microphones?

Hey ST, this is the unit I have.

Also, I don't know where I will setup yet. And for the vows is why the B&G will have the mic.

Hi MusicDan,

I checked your system appears to have the Shure PG30 Unidirectional Headset microphone

I have used this microphone for hours and hours with a Compact and I was fine as long as I didn't walk directly in front of the Compact, within 5 feet of it.

Thanks for the background information about how the Bride & Groom will be using the microphones. Given that they could be inexperienced users, I would be concerned that they would allow the microphone to drop away from their mouths as they spoke. After all, they would be pretty preoccupied during the ceremony.
