I know this has been asked but I can't find it anywhere in the forum so I'm gonna ask myself. Sorry if this has been answered before.
I am ordering my bose system next week from Bose, my question is I am using a mixer with a primary eq on my main system now. Will I still want to be using my primary EQ with the bose ? Its a dual 20 band EQ. My mixer has its own built in 5 band EQ but I have found the 20 band helps to treak the sound. Thanks |

I think you should use the R1 remote that comes with the unit & that's it. Leave your 20 band Eq out of the equation & set the five band on your mixer flat. The R1 will do all the Eqing you will need & plus it sounds better than if you use other Eqs with the L1's.

Your best bet is to play around with the sound to see what you like best. Allot of people here will tell you not to bother with the EQ. I am one of them. With the L1 you really don't need it. BTW, does the EQ have an XLR out or just RCA? Does your mixer have an xlr output? That's the way you should be hooking it up, through the XLR, at the very least 1/4" TRS plug. Let us know how everything turns out.

I believe the EQ only has 1/4 plug in and out and the mixer has xlr as well as 1/4 plug. Thanks for the info and I will let you know as soon as I try it out.

I agree with JD. I like the sound that comes from my rane eq but I get more head room and gain with out it. I use the R1 and tweek the highs up a bit and then pretty much keep my mixer eq flat. the depending on what consol I use I also use a -20db pad or direct box

Before going to the L1 system I ran a 30 band eq, alesis deq230, a BBE sonic maximixer, I wanted to use all of it too because I was so used to having them with conventional speakers. I tried and tried but just couldn't get it right. Finally, I shed the extra gear, never looked back. With the L1, its best to not even do it. We all learned that. You will too.

I also have another question, I am using laptop for all my music and the only audio output is the headphone jacks. I read somewhere someone said to keep the volume down at possibly 50% anyone have input on this ? or suggestions ? Not gonna be able to fork out more money for anything else at this time though !

What software and what computer are you using?
My laptop does not have the greatest internal sound card but it will work fine in a pinch. I use an Echo Indigo sound card into a small mixer when not using my T1. The sound card allows me to listen to (sample) music off the headphone jack while running music out of the sound card to the L1. If I understood someone here correctly, they were saying you should be running into the Model 1 via XLR. I respectfully disagree; the XLR input on the Model 1 is geared for microphones. Running 1/4" into Channels 1 or 2 is preferred. Either one or both channels, stereo or mono but don't forget to set it (or them) at "58" for high volume amplified music. |

Software I haven't seen talked about on here but it is MobileDJ v2.83.06 works flawlessly with the exception of some older songs are not as high volume as the new songs are such as Runaround sue isn't as high volume song as Saltshaker. I've kinda heard other people say the have similar problems with theirs though.
Computer is a Toshiba Satellite, most expensive one the had 7 years ago and again works flawlessly. |

I don't really need to sample music through headsets although that would be a kind of cool feature. My program mixes the music itself much like DJ power does. I think DJ power is a wonderful tool I used it at Dick Clarks and it worked great. After using their program I did a search for it and it was about 600 dollars back then. Well after trying several programs I found MobileDJ and it works the same way with no problems in 7 years. I don't have an a and b channel it mixed it within the program. So I really only need one line out of the computer.

If the song is an MP3, try MP3 Gain to fix the level. It works great. |

Well, I have never even heard of a lot of the programs that are mentioned on here. I use Serato ScratchLive because I come from a turntable background and I needed something that made the transition easier for me coming over to the MP3 world. One of the really cool features for me is that when you add music files into ScratchLive, it scans each file to calculate BPM's (if you use that) and it also automatically adjusts the gain levels so that all of your songs play at a consistent volume level. That basically means that I don't have to touch my gain controls and the only adjusting I do is mild EQ tweaking (especially for older music).
Just suggesting that you might wanna find a program that has this feature (autogain). I notice that you use the automix feature so I don't think ScratchLive is right for you but you can download the program for free from Serato's site to get an idea about how the autogain feature works. |

As I said earler, I use Ots AV/DJ. It's equivlent to ScratchLive. Costs about $350 on line. Scratch is in a lot of clubs and even on board cruise ships. It appears to me, Scratch does a good job leveraging DJ's use their software by making it economically available to venues. If you expect to be using other people’s (venues) software, you should probably use Scratch. For good or for bad, I often move against the grain. I don’t like marketing that tries to control me or monopolize the industry in any other manner than by being the best. Right or wrong on this, I wanted something other than Scratch. Choosing Ots turned out to be a good move. |
