Cool video! I am too envious of some of the venues I see you guys get to play in. I guess it's all location. I think I'm going to have to change the topic of this discussion into Compact in use Pic's & Vids! Smile

This set up was for a wedding ceremony in a Buena Vista CO meadow, about a quarter mile from the ranch house and from the nearest AC power source. This could have been a great shot but the weather didn't cooperate and a pair of 14000 ft peaks were socked in.

We put lav mics the groom and officiant and provided the music. We did it off a jump-starter battery. Worked great!

This outdoor ceremony was at the historical Grant Humphreys Mansion in Denver.

It required 3 setups. This Compact rig for the ceremony with the same set up as the previous photo, with a T1/laptopand a pair of wireless lav mics. Again, on battery power.

The second L1( model 2) set up was with a wireless handheld mic and a laptop (echo indigo sound card). I ran both into the 1 and 2 on the Model 1 and mixed with the remote for cocktails and dinner in the main floor dining room.

The third, was also an L1 (model 2) in the downstairs ballroom for dancing.

During dinner, I moved the T1 from the garden rig to the ballroom rig, well in time for the party.

Here's some photos of an out door wedding we did in September. Our town is right on Lake Superior. We were unsure of the weather & thought we would have to hold the ceremony in side, but we lucked out!
The day turned out to be gorgeous. After the ceremony we DJ their reception at a hall using a L1 mod. 1 & four B1's with a Packlite & it sounded awesome!

Pic 3- I like how you can see the ceremony & still read the Bose logo on the Compact.

jdbassentertainment.com, I'm a little baffled by something in your set-up. I hope you don't think I'm being unpleasant in saying this, but I'm wondering if I'm not understanding something. You've got a compact, visually discreet console and speaker system, yet you've got a hulking great advertising billboard/banner. To my eye it really detracts from your presentation and feels a bit tacky. Is there a specific reason you put up that banner at your events?

Seems to me that he is discreet when its called for. The room is made up of unpainted particle board plywood. Seems to be the perfect place to advertise your service in my opinion.

I don't know what JD had set up for the reception but for the ceremony he looks banner free.
I am a huge fan (student) of the Richard Mills, "less is best", approach. I have enjoyed and learned from JD’s contributions here too. I believe this is a niche industry and things are different depending upon location and demographic. If it works for you, go for it!
That said, I am always willing to look, listen and learn. I learn something almost every time I open this forum.

In reply we never have our banner displayed at a wedding reception or ceremony. I personally think our banner looks rather sharp & professional, but that doesn't mean I'm not open for ideas. Like Lou said I too learn something new all the time on the Bose forums "just for DJ's & KJ's".

As for it taking away from my performance I don't think it matters either way. If I'm rocking the house & people are loving' it I doubt they are too concerned about my banner. It's funny that you should mention this because I just got back from doing a benefit where I used my banner & I had everyone dancing & singing. They asked me to stay longer twice because they were having such a great time.

I also thought it was funny because I almost didn't use my banner but then I thought to my self, well I'm doing this for free so I might as well do a bit of promoting our business. Plus the benefit was very casual, but if it was more classy I would have not used my banner at all.

Thanks for the reply and thanks also for not taking my question to heart. The intent of the written word is so easily misinterpreted and I wasn't criticising your business, rather was just struck by what seemed to me to be a conflicted presentation.

Personally if a DJ showed up to any event I'd hired them for (especially if it was an elegant affair), I'd be appalled if they put an advertising banner up and I'd insist it was removed. I know however that many people wouldn't say anything to you even if they secretly disapproved.

Most of the top-earning mobile DJs I know work almost 100% from referrals and none of them have their business name displayed. Like them, I prefer a more subtle and visually discreet approach, but I'm interested in hearing that your mileage may vary.

Thanks again. Smile

Hi

JD Bass is successful the way he runs "his" business. Richard is successful in the way he runs "his" business. This forum provides valuable insight to Musicians and DJ's in the values of using Bose Equipment in a professional performance and should stay that way.
