Proposed two G2 JBL 15" Powered Speakers on either side of an Li Model 2 with two B1s.
Have only tracking music for the G2s and only voice from the L1.
This would be for vocal tracking work.
Purpose: to give the loudness of the conventional system and the vocal clarity of the L1.
Please weigh in. Maybe the B1s ahouldn't be used here? Would a stereo or mono tracking presentation be more desirable? With this would there be any frequency conflicts from the two systems? Is there a possible problem with the sound distribution and carry differences from the two unlike systems?
How hard would it be to balance this with a mixer supplying the G2s and a T1 supplying the L1?
The key issues I think you'd run into with this approach are in how it sounds to the singers (on the stage) vs. how it sounds in the middle or the back of the room -- which, of course, also depends on the size of the room.
If you balance the sound nicely for the singer on the stage, then at the back of the room you might have folks wishing the tracks would be louder (particularly if the singer is less than stellar).
On the other hand, if you run the G2's loud enough to balance the vocal at the back of the room, you may be hurting the singer's ears -- unless you position the G2's well off to the side and in front of the singer. ... But you still might be overwhelming the front-most listeners.
If your sources (backing tracks) are stereo, then I'd run the two G2's as stereo pair.
to add more light on the subject, there would be NO REASON to supplement the L1. All sources should come from that speaker alone. To have CLARITY THROUGH OUT!
If this is done for vocal tracking work, and you are recording, your best bet is to give the singer some headphones for the music and let them sing in a mic. Just like in a studio. If it's being recorded you don't want an amplified speaker in the room projecting anything into the singers mic but the singers voice.
Hello Dance Host, What I did once was made some backtracks using midi files, panning drums hard right and bass hard left.I placed the L1 in the middle slightly behind me.About 6 foot left and right of the L1 I placed a powered speaker and ran my backtracks through those. My guitar and vocal were coming out of L1.To me it sounded like a bass player to one side of me and a drummer on the other side of me.End result was it only impressed me.The audience didn't really pick up on it.After that I just went back to playing everything out of one L1,a lot less hassle and the audience still likes it.
