Well I finally got my L1M1 system in and I'm testing them out as I type this. I could not be more satisfied. This speaker is a marvel of professional engineering. Good job Bose! Right now I have my ipod plugged into channel 1 on pre-set 58 and the volume is at a moderate listening level with a nice selectino of jazz tunes playing out at the moment. I was going to crank the volume up to see how loud it really gets, but it's loud at 3 on the remote with the base stand at about 12'o colck. No need to turn it up any louder as I am pretty sure it gets as loud as everyone says it does. I am glad I made to decision to get one. I almost thought about selling my two Compacts to get another one but I love those too. I wish Bose had a trade-for-credit type system, then I just might do that. Once again thank you Bose for creating such an awsome piece of gear. One more question before I go. Would I run one XLR channel out my DJM800 mixer to the stand or run both? I assume I would just run 1 out with just one speaker, but is there any benefit to running both channels out as opposed to 1 from the mixer? How is anyone with a similar mixer running their single L1?

Congrats on your purchase. You will definitely enjoy your L1. Regarding getting rid of the Compacts, It's a smart move to keep them. For awkward venue setups and flexibility of sound placement, the compacts are the perfect audio source solution. I recently did a gig at a location that I'd gigged once before using the L1 and had no problems with sound, etc. This time, the police showed up and said that there was a noise compliant. I didn't know that there was a 9:30 noise ordnance on weekdays (This was a Thursday night gig. The previous one was on a Saturday night). I turned the volume of the L1 down and made some EQ adjustments and was prepared to disconnect one B1 if needed. I realize now that I could have done this gig with two compacts and the volume would have been perfect. Live and learn. I'll leave your XLR question for some one else. Thanks for that Professor. That kinda got me thinking. It may be wise for me to go ahead and keep them. Keeping them does provide extra options.

Update: In case you didn't see this in another thread. I was the emergency stand-in at a swing dance this past weekend, at the same location I mentioned above where the cops showed up. I decided to leave the L1 M2 at home and went with the Dual Compacts. I left the single Energy sub in the van just in case needed and the Compacts rocked the house. Load in/out was quick and simple (15- 20 minutes tops). There was a dance class being offered before the main dance started and I let the instructor plug his ipod into one of my compacts while I finish my tweaking of the set-up. Talk about a Sinking feeling. As I was setting up, I realized that since I rushed out to get to the venue, I left one of my gig bags at the house. In it was my external sound card, my ipod dock and the electrical power plug I place on my table. Fortunately, I carry a supply of audio connectors and backups of most main gig items and was able to run the entire gig through my Lappy sound-card using the Griffin splitter. The VDJ CPU monitor stayed happy all night and i only cranked the power of the Compacts up to about the 12;30 position all night. For a moment there though, I was starting to sweat a little bit thinking I was going to have to make a mad dash to Radio shack. Note: Like in the commercial where the people say "It's a good thing I have my Orange juice," I feel the same way about my Compacts. I feel you there Professor. They will be staying with me for now. Can't get another L1M1 until some time later in the year. I only hope that bose doesn't stop making them anytime soon as was the case with my JBL sub. Now folks want way more for that sub (JBL PRX718S)than what it originally retailed for.
