Hi
I recently switched from my trusty vaio for a toshiba, the first gig with it was a nightmare, as soon as I plugged in the power cord to it and went live on the L1 there was a horrendous noise / interference, so it was a case of running on battery and praying! Has anybody else had this problem from the psu of a toshiba, thinking of going for a dell xps model anythoughts on this? thks Adrian |

unplug the power cord and see if the noise goes away. This of course allowing the laptop to run on it's battery. If it goes away, go to the dollar store and get some of these: http://rsk.imageg.net/graphics...RS1C-2266744w345.jpg , this is called a ground plug. Plug the laptops power cord into this then into the outlet. Then check your sound. Been using them for all my laptops for almost ten years with no problems, and eliminates the buzz.

There is a buzz on all laptops because of the power supply ground loop. You can get a device that your power supply plugs into something X I can't remember the brand. You can also get an adapter for $2 that goes from a 3 prong plug into a 2 prong plug but then your laptop wouldn't be grounded. Randy

Hi dwdrums,
Which model L1® do you have? See: Different Models How are you connecting your laptop to the L1® Do you have the L1® (and if applicable, T1®) and laptop all connected to the same power source? (power strip). Please make sure that all your cables are well away from the Toshiba power supply. Please see this note in the wiki about ground loops. Ground Loops -= Click picture for details =- Finally, here is a link to search results for DJ laptop hum eliminator. You will find several different products and review of those products there. |

Hi
I am using an L1 classic, have always kept cables away and in differnt power strips where possible - this has only happened since I used the toshiba, their tech guys said the power of the PA wa accentuating the noise from the psu, and taking the source from the headphones out socket, saying this set up was not fit for purpose!! i.e. headphones only. thks |

Try an Ebtech Hum X Hum Exterminator
About $69 at your favorite Musician and DJ supply store. Plug it into the power source and the laptop directly into it. If it don't fix the problem, just return it. My guess, it should do the job. |

Hi
I had the same problem then remembered why I carried those three prong into two prong adapters. Dug through my "emergency bag" and found it! Plugged the 3 prong power chord into it and the 2 prong into the power strip.....ahhhhhhh.....no noise! Cheap fix. |

Thanks all, will give one of these units a go, guess my new laptop has a higher amp output than the other hence the increased noise.

Actually, it really is just a poor design of the motherboard and the headphone output ... there is no technical reason that the laptop's power supply unit should induce noise in the audio output. Purely poor design; nothing to do with 'features' of the laptop's output. Granted, they may have optimized that output for headphones, but there still should not be 'psu' induced noise. FYI: re: different power strips. The ideal is to have the L1 and the laptop on the SAME power circuit (the laptop has trivial power requirements compared to the L1). ST's comment refers to keeping the laptop's (or any other device's) "power brick" away from any audio-signal-carry cords. |

I had a Toshiba Laptop and the noise was usually a problem, with several different sound systems. At the gazebo, we tried a DI box, which helped a bit, but still there, I think we summed them and went mono. I had noise with a friends Peavey, a powered Behringer and my L1, T1. Surprisingly, even using USB it still had issues. I sure don't miss that Toshiba. I don't have any problems with my HP TX2000 or my Motion LE1600, they work great. |

Hi Dan
as soon as I took out the power cord there was just the standard hum, power back on and this excruciating noise way above hum type stuff was howling out of the L1 |

My toshiba laptop does it too and also my vaio humms as well. They are both 2 prong plugs not 3 prong. What do I do ? |

Even though people say not to use these, I do only on my laptop. Been using it for seven years on it and have never had a problem. Have you tried that yet? |

The Ebtech Hum X Hum Exterminator definitely worked for me.

I use a laptop for my karaoke & never have problems with interference as long as I have my laptops power supply plugged into my Furman PL-Pro II. At home when I've done some karaoke not using my power conditioner at times I have gotten some interference.
