Hello all,
I bought one Bose L1 Model I System with Double Bass modules. It will be arriving by UPS today.

I will be using it with:
Denon dn-x900 mixer
Denon DN-HC4500 controller
Dell XPS laptop / VDJ software
Sennheiser EW135 G2 WIRELESS handheld
Sennheiser EW135 G2 WIRELESS lapel

I will be using it this Saturday at an outdoor venue for about 60 guests. This will be a ceremony and reception. I plan on using jdbassentertainment’s advice below (minus step 4).
I will report back tomorrow with my results. Do you think I’m missing anything?

Here are the setting I use & that sound great to me. First turn on the -10 attenuation on the back of your mixer. This will help make the signal "less hot" which is a good thing when working with the L1's. Next use a XLR to XLR cable from the mixer to channel one. Then set channel one to preset # 58(the standard DJ setting) & put the trim on channel one all the way down. Then plug in your R1 remote & set the trim on channel one to the little dot before 12 o'clock (I guess it would be about 10-11 o'clock. At this point when you start to hit reds on your mixer you will notice that you will start to see the LED signal indicator on the L1 power stand showing a bunch of red. You may get a red flicker or two before a little before it hits reds on the mixer but that's OK. Lastly set the R1's master volume to twelve o'clock - straight up.

Now at this point a few last tips:
1) Don't use the Eq on the mixer, use the R1-leave the X900 flat for the music. For the mic I usually cut the bass to about nine o'clock & add just a hint of highs.
2) Set the volume knob on the X900 to about two - three o'clock & leave it(mostly). Now use the faders/ trim of each channel to control the volume & if you need more volume use the trim on that channel to dial up more.
3) Now if you need more volume on the R1 remote adjust the master volume to the next dot past twelve which should be about two o'clock
(I only use this settings for "larger" shows).

4)As for four B1's being loud enough for a bar, yes it will be plenty & too much in others. One thing i would invest in if I were you is a A1 Packlite amp from Bose, because there will be some bars where two L1's will be too loud but you need more low end. Once a month I play at a casino where because of the acoustic properties of the room if I use two L1's it's too loud, but if I use one L1 with two B1's it sounds a bit weak on the low end. So in turn by eliminating one L1 & by adding the Packlite with the other two B1's it sounds well balanced & awesome!

5) If you end up using one L1 for a smaller gig turn on the the stereo to mono switch on the back of your mixer(this will send both the right & left to both XLR's so that you can plug into just one & you'll get to all the music in just one L1. If you do this just make sure to flip it back to stereo before you use both L1's- dual mono is a no no unless you are spacing the L1's at least twenty feet. This is because of the signal cancellation that occurs when they are too close & playing the same exact material.

jdbassentertainment’ Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

It took me a while to un-box the speakers but set up was a breeze thanks to your instructions.
I got everything set up and tried presets 00, 57, and 58. I agree that 58 will be best for me.

Sound was awesome for music and I can stand 3 feet in front of the L1 with no feedback with my handheld mic.

I do have feedback problems with my lapel mic. I will work on Squelch, AF out and Sensitivity Levels today and see if I get any improvements.

Does anyone have suggestions on omnidirectional lapel mics for the L1?

Glad I could help, sounds great with the Denon doesn't it? As for lapel mic's no clue, I have messed with them a few times always getting way too much feedback before volume.

Yeah.
(1) If at all possible, don't use them. (They are really design for broadcast work, not live sound.)

(2) Keep the body between the mic and the speakers -- and wear it as close to the mouth as feasible (not mid-chest).

(3) Buy or fashion a "shield" / capsule to make it less omni.

(4) See #1.

I have tweaked my lapel and have got decent results.

I will just have to mark off the limits before each use.

Thank you all for your advice. Smile

I have a similar setup. I have the same mixer and I also use VDJ, but with a DAC-2 controller. I will be receiving my one L1 and 2 B1's later this week. I have a gig next month on the 12th. I will be baptizing my new Bose setup. I'm bookmarking this post to help me with my initial setup.

If I understand correctly, I need to switch my output to mono since I only have one L1,yes?

Yes that is true, the mixer will then sum the L & R channels & you'll get all the music out of the L1- very important! The X500/X900 are awesome mixers to use with the L1's, I think you'll be very pleased with the sound, I know I have been.
