Dear friends who speak Italian,

I have added automated translation to the wiki. Please try it out and let me know if you think it is working well enough to keep it.

You can click the image below, then look for the box where you can choose a language that you prefer.

Thank you!

Hi ST,

I want to thank you for your incredibile and effective support...but I'm so sorry to tell you that the Google automated translation is very bad. Maybe not for other languages, but for italian it doesn't work well enough and many phrases don't make sense!!

Smile

Thank you!

Hi Ilaria,

Thank you for telling me about this. This raises an interesting issue because there isn't really a way to warn people - "this might be okay in other languages, but not Italian".

Have you encountered any translation systems that work better for Italian?

Thank you.

... this also might be an example to point the "Google translation" folks toward to help improve the translation mechanisms ...

Hi Dan,

There is a feedback mechanism through which any reader of a translated page can "Suggest a better translation". You can read about it in

The translation quality isn't as good as I'd like it to be. Can you make it more accurate?.

It would be great if people would do this, I wouldn't expect that someone who was visiting the wiki for information would be particularly motivated to take the time.

Hi Ilaria,

If you have a few moments would you mind looking at this
The translation quality isn't as good as I'd like it to be. Can you make it more accurate?.

and then returning to the Wiki and suggesting a better translation for some of the key phrases that are not translated well?

It would be interesting to know how quickly the 'better translation' shows up in the wiki.

Thank you.

No, I haven't and i'm still looking for!! Smile
Unfortunately You know that a translation system is a good support if you want to translate a single word or little phrase...but it won't be able to give somebody the real sense of a complete speech.

So...the problem is that the entire pages need to be translate, not only a phrase or a word. do you know if is it possible to translate the whole content of a page?

Thank you!

Hi guys,

I'm trying to translate the home page using the feedback mechanism (just clicking on every single phrase)....we only have to wait (and hope) it will show up soon! If it will work, i will translate the entire wiki.

Ciao

Hi Ilaria,

Thank you for doing this.

Yes, I would wait to see how long it takes for Google to incorporate your translations before taking on the entire wiki (over 400 pages).

Ciao!
