Hi

I use a Microvox mini swan-neck mic for my tin whistle & low whistle:
http://www.microvox.demon.co.uk/flutepage.htm

I find this reasonably successful (good clear sound, usually no feedback problems). Only problem is that the lower register of both instruments tends to be a bit too quiet - this is a characteristic of the instrument, it's the same in an acoustic situation.

Any suggestions for how I might use the T1 to compensate for this ? (i.e. boost the lower notes). EQ? Tonematch preset ? (currently I have it on bypass for this channel).

Thanks

I presume you've gone through most of the mic presets; you might also try some of the other wind instruments, such as trumpet or soprano sax, and then use the Z-eq associated with those presets.

Another thought:

Use the Para-EQ, set the center frequency (Freq.) to the lowest note on the instrument, with the narrowest width (0.2 octave). Raise the level to where that lowest note sounds good (balanced) with the upper range. Then widen the "Width" of the filter to where the rest of the lower notes sound balanced as you move up & down the scale.

If that doesn't seem to get it "quite right", particularly in that there is too much boost at the lowest notes but not enough in the middle of that lower octave without boosting those beyond the 'problem range', then you might also try setting the center frequency a few notes lower (or higher) than the lowest note of the instrument. When the center frequency is lower, for example, none of the notes are on the 'center frequency', but are all riding on the "tail" of the volume boost curve.

You might think of this as setting up a custom single-band "Z-eq", since there isn't a preset for those instruments. Be sure to save as a "scene" for each instrument.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I haven't actually played about with the presets yet (still relatively new to using the T1).

Thanks for the help

Iain:

I am interested in buying the mini swan-neck mic. Do I need to purchase PUS? If yes, what is the PSU you recommend?

Thanks,
KC

Hi

Either PSU is OK. I would say it depends on whether you need a volume control right next to you. E.g. I use the PSU without volume control, but I have the Bose T1 in front of me so it's easy to make an adjustment.

Generally the mics / PSUs seem to work fine (I have used these for a number of years). The Phono connector between the mic and PSU isn't as robust as it might be. Sound quality seems reasonable for the price.

Hope this helps
