I just wanted you guys to know that I purchased a system with one bass cab and I am very pleased. I play sax in a combo as well as solo at a small resturant outside. The sound is so much better than what I was getting with conventional PA and monitors and I dont have to lug all that stuff. A couple of trips to the car and Im done. This is truly as advertised and a great technological advance. I have come to expect a little more money for a bose product but ALWAYS have been rewarded with a great product.....Thanks so much!!!!!!!

Hey Dr. Jones, funny, but I just played for a(might be retired) orthopedic surgeon yesterday, solo...

I play sax too, have had a PAS for about a year now, love it, but sometimes find problems with sound, feedback, & occasionally volume.
Do you use it with your combo, for yourself only, or is it the PA? When you play solo, do you run tracks through it as well? Use a mic, or wireless, what kind?

Do you use a mixer, or just run direct into the Bose? What presets?

Your experience may help me, as there are so few woodwind players commenting on this board, and you know, it takes one to know one.....

Thanks...

With the combo, we have 2 horns and a singer that need a pa so we use it for that only. We do not use a mixer. The Bass player has his own amp as well as the keys. It works well for a nice smaller setting and outside up to about 100 feet.Volume is not a problem. I seem to have plenty. Maybe the venues are different?
We are still experimenting with the big band, hoping to use it for the vocals alone in that they and the saxes (solo mics) are the only ones that need amplification. We are trying a mixer etc for that in that tenors carry less than altos etc. Also, I like a big Bari sound.
Outside with the big band we still use occasionally conventional PA and monitors but it is a royal pain and not any better than the one system. Since I drive the trailer, I hope everybody likes it!!!I came to play and not sclep equipment!!! Smile
When I play solo, I use CD trax that I have "constructed" and run a CD player thru the #2 input and the sax thru a clip on wired AT 35 and dont have ANY problems with feedback unless I get right up on the line array. I use one bass cab (because of the bass in the trax) and really like being able to adjust things "on the fly" with the remote.
I thought I might try some reverb on the sax because sometimes it needs a little "on the bridge at night" sound. Gonna get an insert cable and use either my pico verb or my digitech guitar pedal(which I HAVE had problems with feed back on a conventional PA). Gonna do a gig wed with the combo in atl. at Maggianos at perimeter mall.
The big deal to me is its portability and great sound. You could get the same result with a LOT more equipment but this setup is just to die for!!!! I love it!!!
The clip on I use has the least amount of key noise than any of the others that I have used. The combo setup, I use a Shure 57 for the trumpet and sax and a Shure 55 for the singer.(she likes the look but I would prefer a 58 actually)
Hope this helps...you are correct. Wind players are the minority. We cant all sound like Clapton Big Grin....I bought my system at Guitar Center and when I brought my sax in to try it out, they didnt know what to think!!!!

Here are some pics from our gig today. We used a L1 as the pa for a 6 tet with a singer. I used a mixer for channel 2 and the horns and put the singer in channel one with a little reverb thru an insert cable and put the keys into channel 3. I used channel 4 for a Bose cd player for background music during the breaks. The drums were un miked and the bass used his amp alone. The horns were playing into Shure 57s and the singer used a 58 with the preset.

Hi sjonesjrmd,

Thanks for the pictures.

Am I missing something? The first and second pictures seem identical? (except for the size).

Also the last two are really big. Here are some notes about how you can shrink them to fit the forum.

Please see Posting Pictures

sorry It was late when I posted them and you are right about the first two. One is just more cropped. I wanted to make sure that you could see where the L1 was . Feel free to edit or remove redundant material. There are a lot more pics at http://sjonesjrmd.spaces.msn.com/

Thanks for making music so much fun!!!!!!!! Smile

Nice pics sjonesjrmd!
I did some editing to make your photos a little easier to download for folks on dialup and easier to view on small-to-medium sized monitors. Keep those photos coming!

I love that clean, unobstructed view that Bose bands have, and that a 4+ pc band can use one system effectively.

Thanks for the pics doc.

The L1 is in the back of the bandstand. I'm playing a solo gig outside at a french resturant playing strait ahead jazz. The BOSE cd player is playing thru channel one and the Shure 57 is thru channel 2 with preset set on 00. I have a "bit" of reverb thru an Alesis picoverb/nano (whatever) for the ballads. (just a touch)

Who let this goofball in? Actually this is to show that I use a plexiglass sound reflector for a little bit more immediate "monitoring" of my sound with no feedback.

hi, sjonesjrmd!

I'm intrigued - tell me more about the reflector! Since I play trumpet and trombone, I know that, outdoors especially, the sound you hear while playing can be quite different from what you hear indoors.

What venues do you use it in? Do you know other instrumentalists who use it?

Thanks -
Bill

http://www.soundback.com/ has all the info that you need. As a sax player I spend some time playing into a wall or refrigerator to get a good tone. This is just like that and gives you a sound monitor for "free" in that there is no setup. It also lets you know if you get off axis from your mic in that the sound changes immediately. Works regardless of the PA system that you use (sorry BOSE).
