Tho my other post with clips met with stunning silence <G> I thought I'd post a better example of what the new Yamaha midi trumpet sounds like in a seasonal song.

After my vocal intro - you'll hear 4 or 5 of the voices in the new EZ-TP
I'm playing everything on this one .. drums on the Roland HPD-15 .

So :

Please go to my 'artist's page' at
FocusPlayer's page

and click on the little embeded player on the right and scroll down to song number 17 "O Come All Ye Faithful" to hear me moving up the learning curve on the new toy.

This is my audio Christmas card to you all so doin't expect anything in the mail this year <G>

Big Grin Very Nicely done. The mix is great and although you can tell that it is a synth sound, it is doggone difficult to do what you did as well as you did. Great job!!! Happy Holidays...

Thanks Sjones !
all: Important to note I have never tried a brass instrument of any kind before this month -I'd love to hear what someone with some valve-skill could do with this and a good wind-synth.
Also keep in mind that this is only a 300 dollar controler marketed as an educational toy.

Hey Michael,
You have more toys than Santa! T'was a great recording and I'm amazed at the sounds you get from that "toy".
Keep posting and we'll keep listening.

Loved it. Missed your earlier posts, so I have a few questions.

First, so you actually have to sing (or hum)into the unit? And what happens when you press down a valve?

Second, I notice a little delay on some note entrances. Does this thing have trouble processing in real time?

Once again, very, very nicely done.

Hi Michael,

I too apologize for missing your last music sample post, been distracted by something else I suppose.

Anyway, this stuff is excellent! It amazes me all the talent online that is making great music. I've listened to a bunch of the stuff on guitaristworks, and it is all really good.

So much to hear and play, and so little time.

Well thanks folks !

Cameron: Yes, you have to hum/sing into the mouthpiece and preferably on the pitch you want it to create. You can be a bit flat or sharp if you have the right valve depressed tho and it will try hard to keep you in-line.

There are two ways to avoid using the valves..
1) put it in the mode that sounds like an electric Kazoo and just sing anything you want. It will follow you ( mistakes and all) but it butchers what ever voice you have it set on unless you are in-humanly presise in your pitch placement and stick to stacatto stabs.
or
2) Play only notes
in a bugal scale - or trumpet open scale - Stuff like Revalee or Taps is dandy.
--
The valves do the same thing to the pitch that they do on a trumpet. To play a major scale in it's default Bb, you have sing AND play the right combinations of depressed valves.

One short cut- you can move the "home" key from Bb to Eb, C, and F - and thus keep your "C-scale" fingering in 4 keys .

--
Delay... errr, that's mostly me on the learning curve but you will find some slight delay/latency at times esp if the note you are singing is slightly under or over the pitch you're moving to. Rather less "Goose honks" than working with pressure-buzzing in a real mouthpiece... but as you heard, I managed to yodel a few notes anyway <G>

When I find some more sheet music with the little cheet - valve markings over the notes... I'll post another clip using the GR_20 for the synth voices. Roland has several Brass settings that are more believable than the Yamaha's internal voices.

Drumr, No apology needed. You all have a life and work and stuff - and it's a very buisy time of year !
Thanks for the kind words .

Hi Michael,

I'm sorry not to have gotten to this sooner. I saw your posts, and thought, "I'll save that for later." anticipating that it was going to be a treat. I was right.

Listening to this with an open ear for a new instrument, this is pretty neat. I think I'd like it better if I didn't have the visual of it looking like a trumpet. But that's just me.

That's a lot of sound for $300, but for all of that, I really thought that the best part was your vocal at the beginning of the track.

Thanks for the audio Christmas card.
