What suggestions would you guys have for a piper wanting to use the PAS? Which mic, placement, etc...

Thanks!

Bagpipes need to be amplified? Eek Big Grin Are you talking Scottish pipes or Uillean?

It's very tough to mic bagpipes, but based on my limited experience of recording them, you might have the best luck placing a large diaphragm condensor or a high quality ribbon mic, several feet BEHIND you. In fact you could probably put the mic right behind the PAS (but to the side of it of course, so the PAS isn't blocking it). Pipes don't seem to do too well with close miking, you have to get some distance between them and the mic! Having it behind the player seems to help get a better balance between the drones and chanter. Experiment with height placement of the mic as well as distance, until you're happy with the balance.

I have no idea how this will work in a stage situation, I just know it works in the studio.
