I just wanted to report on my first weekend of using my new BOSE system. I use the word power in parenthesis because two different meanings for the same word were revealed to me this past weekend.

On Friday Night I had an event at my local NFL Stadium out on the field. I have done this event for the previous 4 years so this was my 5th and first with the BOSE system. The sound that came out of those two towers and 4 B1s was something like I have never heard before. It literally filled the stadium with about 800 - 900 kids and parents running all over the place. The people working at the restaurant on the midlevel of the stadium made a point to come down and see "what the heck was I using to create that awesome sound". I counted no less than 17 people who came up to me saying "Those speakers are putting out that much power". Needless to say, I for sure felt like "the man" my first night out with them. How would I top that?

This brings me to the second meaning of "power"...

On Saturday I was setting up in a venue I had only been in once before over the past few years. In the midst of me setting up (mind you, no music had been played, I had not spoke on my mic yet, nothing!) the catering manager walks over to me and says "Can you please give me as many of your business cards as you have?" I was somewhat perplexed, I said to her, "But I have not even done anything yet, what if I don't do a good job?" Her response was, "I am not even worried about that, anyone with that sound system know what they are doing and you will get everyone of my referrals from now on." Wow!!! That is power!

To boot, I used them at a corporate event last night and the A/V guys said, "You are the real deal man, just looking at your setup tells us that. Those speakers alone prove your level of commitment to your job." Again, before I even turned the power on.

DJs out there reading these posts that are on the fence about getting this system, I was right there with you. It took me a year to decide to get this system. In 3 days (3 events) it has already proven to be the hands down best purchase I have made in my whole career as a Mobile Entertainer. Now that might change tomorrow, I doubt it, but I guess it could. Until then, if the day ever comes, I am looking forward to the possibilities that will branch from this already excellent start out of the shoot. Have an awesome week everyone.

the 1 hard thing to get use to them is you dont have to kick them up to be heard. it is a different way of thinkging for sure.

David -
Welcome to the forum, and thanks for your amazing post.

I'd love to hear more about the stadium - size, setup, where were the speakers and audience? What kind of program material?

Thanks,
Bill

These experiences on your first weekend will add such a level of confidence to your overall performance mentality that it seemingly borders on entry into Ripley's Believe or Not. All former acoustical and logistical setup concerns and nightmares with the traditional speakers on stick are now part of your past, gone forever. Breath free.

Continued joy with your system and thank you for your business. Call me again if any questions, concerns, or issues come along.

May I quote you? Wink

GREAT JOB!!!

I just wish that happened in my market.

To date, I have not yet experienced that here (13 months). At least not to that degree. In fact, cards flew away faster before the new system (not a dig on BOSE).

So far, the ONLY folks they impress are those that CANNOT do anything (bar staff/imported wait staff/etc) or the occasional out of town guest. All others draws a collective yawn.

Maybe Baltimore/DC is different. We do have a few jocks using this system but even in places that I was first (first venue/caterer/photo) still get greeted w/ a yawn. So much so I never want to mention it - unless asked. Even then keep banter to a minimum.

Never have I been asked for a card before play b/c of the system. Never been asked for card after an event b/c of the system.

My clients are VERY upscale. Maybe that is why?

Just this past weekend, the toastmasters walked away from the head table and stood RIGHT IN FRONT of the L1. I know folks were cringing - waiting for the squealing. I was not worried - in fact gave them xtra volume. Not a blip of feedback and plenty of volume for the 100 plus guests.

Now the photographer for that event was the only one that commented (very photogenic system) and also was pleased w/ my console as well.

So, 13 months later - still waiting for the BOSE dividend like David and others have experienced.

Advice anyone?

I took some associates at Guitar Center to this post yesterday and said "just read this". They were impressed as well. Good stuff.

Howdy,

I did a wedding at a high end Inn here in Maine. Before anyone arrived, the gentleman responsible for the building, etc asked me to power the BOSE L1 up. I took his request and before I played the song, I played the THX sounder that you hear in theaters. You should have seen his eyes widen as the bass kicked in. He asked for a stack of cards. The wedding planner for the Inn also asked for a stack and said I'm on the vendor list. THAT is BOSE talking!

If only in my area... <sigh>

What I don't want is 'book Ed cuz he has BOSE' b/c then tools not talent take over. The other DJs in my market that use the L1 charge 1/2 to 1/3 my rate.

I would rather have them say, 'book Ed cuz he is awesome and has BOSE to boot'.

I am trying to meet (audition) certain venues that have next to impossible setup space. Usually small taverns and lunch rooms are very tight. Conventional speakers & gear just won't fit.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Thank you for your kind words and responses. Cap, as always feel free to quote me. The fun continues as the past week or so has gone by since my original post. Responses continue to flow in on the beauty, elegance and sound quality.

DJ Ed, I am sorry to hear that the impact has not been the same yet for you. You bring up a great point though and I agree 100% that I do not want people to just refer me because of my sound system, but I am glad it catches the eye in my market. The best advice I can give you is just keep doing the darn good job I am sure you are doing and as long as you are growing as a business and DJ then your investment was a wise one and continue to shine.

Have a great weekend everyone!!!
