Mike is running everything into a small mixer into channel 3 of his Bose system.

Here is a way he can do without the mixer, and this also gives him the option to use the presets and use the Remote control unit.

The Remote will control volume and tone for your
- vocals (channel 1 using EV ND mic preset)
- guitars (channel 2 preset 00 or 12" speaker

also, Master volume that will include your
- Roland midi player (mono out) to channel 3
- CD player (patch cord to mono) to channel 4

If you want to use the effects in a mixer, you could wire things up this way.

This still allows the use of the presets for channels 1 and 2 on the PowerStand.

In this case we are talking about a Mackie xx02 series mixer that has the Mute to Alt 3/4 buss option. Muting a channel actually routes it to the other buss.

If you have a mixer that does not have this option, you may still be able to do route the line level inputs (CD player, MIDI player, keyboard, etc.) to an Aux send line.

edit - correction concerning Mackie Models. Previously stated DFX series, but this does not have the Mute to Alt feature common in other Mackie xx02 mixers.

Steve? ST,

This set-up seems to give me a little more control. I am assuming I use balanced XLR cables for channel 1 & 2. Should I set the presets to 00, or settings for the EV ND, and 12" speaker respectivley.

Thanks again.

Mike,

Just call me ST. (Steve-at-Bose is a great guy. I'm just a friend of the family).

Connections
Try ordinary 1/4 inch cables for all connections from the mixer to the PowerStand.

If there is a switch to output at -10 instead of +4 from the Mackie - choose -10.

You can explore other options if you run into noise problems. I'd be surprised if you did.

Presets
If you are using the newer version 2.0 presets (recommended),

Try #09 #10 #11 for the EV mike.

I'm not familiar with the early Pods.
You could run the "to guitar amp" into #25 for the 12" speaker emulation.

If there is a mono - studio mix - for a recording board try that with #00.

ST,

I looked over your diagram, and I'm pretty sure
the mute will turn off the signal even to Aux1 & Efx2... (aux3 & aux4) in your diagram (I have the dfx6) wich is really a four channel mixer with two stereo channels (3 & 4). the mute button will not effect the inserts though. I was thinking maybe run the MIDI & CD to the (aux1/mon) out? but they will still bleed into left/right? hmm... any suggestions?

Mike,

Sorry, I've been reading so many manuals lately, I got mixed up.

The DFX6/12 mixers do not have the same system for routing to secondary busses 3/4. Most of the Mackies have these secondary busses, and choosing Mute on a channel automatically routes the signal to 3/4. The DFX mixers don't.

So don't mute, just use the Aux Sends for the CD player and the MIDI Player.

Here's the block diagram for the DFX series outputs.

Mike,

Here's a corrected version.

For anyone else reading...
The Mackie Onyx xx02 series and the 1202, 1402 etc. series should work as shown in this diagram above running the mute/alt/3/4 combination.

edit - revised sketch
