Hello from the nation's capital in Canada. How has the response been from up here? There doesn't appear to be any distribution set up in Canada so what's a guy to do? I've been studying the PAS system information and reading a lot about it and I'm really excited about it. I'm just lining up my ducks to make that phone call and place the order. How does shipping work when you send stuff up here? Thanks from Ivan Thanks from Ivan ivanmatte@sympatico.ca

Hey Ivan, If you call the 800 number they can walk you thorugh the process of getting the system in Canada. On the web site and through the phone we sell to Canadian customers all the time. There are some additional duties and taxes that are required that I don't know off the top of my head, but the phone folks will. (800-905-0886) Steve

Great News! My ducks lined up last week and I placed the order for a Basic L1 package on Tuesday or Wednesday, the order was shipped on Friday and I received the first 2 of the 3 boxes this morning. (UPS has this strange delivery method, keeps more drivers on the road). What great Bose service. Looking forward to using it and for those of you in the Ottawa, Canada area, keep your eyes on this space because there's a tentative gig set up for the middle of May where we can all experience PAS. The system will be used by a jazz ensemble, with just vocalist through the PAS for now. I play upright bass through An Acoustic Image Contra and will probably leave that in place. My wife and I (she's the singer) play with a variety of accompanists depending on the gig, so we'll keep it simple for now. She's always wanted a quality system and this is her birthday gift, so don't tell her! Thanks from Ivan Thanks from Ivan ivanmatte@sympatico.ca

Congrats, Ivan. I have a lot of very recent experience using a single PAS with a variety of small to large jazz ensembles. I can assure you that a singe L1 with a B1 can handle almost anything you can throw at it as long as you're not playing in a huge venue. You will need a small mixer, but I wouldn't hesitate to put a four or five piece jazz band through a single PAS and I know that the results would be fantastic. Of course, if you had more towers, you would get the full effect, but a single PAS is way better than any conventional amplification system, particularly for jazz. I suspect you will also find that the PAS will compare very well with your bass amp if you run direct from your pickup through preset #50. I've run a half a dozen different acoustic basses through the system and they always sound better than a mic if the pickup is even half way decent. I'm sure the Acoustic Image is a great amp, but why use it if you don't need it? Let the PAS do the work for you. Order a B1 as a gift to yourself, you won't be sorry. PM me if you have questions. Hello! I play in a small group in Alberta, Canada. We play a lot of celtic music, we have 4 musicians and play a combination of guitars, hand drums, whistles and keyboard. I was under the impression EACH of us would need the PAS. With a small venue and a mixer, could we test out the system with less?
|
Tom De Vries, Thanks for your interest in our system. The new approach to amplification would work great with Celtic-Style music. Although it is quite possible to outfit each member in your group with their own system, it is not always necessary. There are many "sharing" scenarios to be had, especially if you had access to a baby mixer, (like you mentioned). Smaller venues also work to complement this system nicely. I would love to hear more about your group/instrumentation in detail and then we could make some recommendations. Does anyone sing? Mostly acoustic guitar? Does each member in the group play multiple instruments? Where do you normally stand on stage? Looking forward to hearing from you....and with a 'little irish luck' we'll have you outfitted in no time!!!

Ivan, I'm not sure if you are still reading this thread, but we spoke on the phone the other day. Please let me know if you receive the shipment I sent to you. Send me a private message if there are any issues. I hope that everything is working out well, and that you are loving the system. It seems like a perfect fit for your group... hopefully you can convince your entire ensemble to use it! Keep us posted on how that gig mid-May goes. Also, Ottawa is an amazing city! I had an opportunity to visit there several years ago, and I had a great time. Beautiful architecture and great museums. I would love to go back and see everything that I missed. Take care, Andy

Hi Andy You bet I'm still reading this as well as all other threads and will continue to do so for the rest of my life! Received notice of shipment email today and I'm sure the remote will arrive safely. First test gig is tomorrow evening, small dining room. Lindsay has agreed to lend her new PAS to my guitarist/lounge singer buddy that I play with (duo) so that she can hear it live before she uses it next Friday. I'll plug his vocal mic and acoustic magnetic pickup into 1 & 2 and I'll keep my upright with my AI Contra for the time being. We're looking forward to the live test run. I'm spreading the word slowly and there will be several fellow musicians at next Friday's gig. It should be real interesting evening. I'll report all progress. Thanks from Ivan Thanks from Ivan ivanmatte@sympatico.ca

Hi Tom, Sorry to hear you haven't had much luck with your questions. If you get a chance, give us a call here at (877-335-2673). We will certainly do our best to answer or get answers to all of your questions. On the phone we can also discuss system options for the instrumentation you provided. Look forward to hearing from you!

Hello all, just as I was going to make some calls to the US for more info, I got a flyer in the mail. Long and McQuade, a music store chain here in Canada, is going to be carrying the Bose speakers, so hurrah! I'll be able to go see them in person. So that's great news! They are doing a demo in Vancouver and Toronto for those of you reading who may live there...

Great to hear that Bose is using Long & McQuade to launch in Canada (Toronto & Vancouver). However, there is a large part of Canada east of Toronto as well.. Ottawa, Montreal and the Maritime provinces. Do any Bose-folk know what's gonna be the deal east of Toronto? Thanks from Ivan Thanks from Ivan ivanmatte@sympatico.ca

I was actually wondering about that. I'm really willing to get a system but I'm scared to death about all the *** fees that the shipment would cost: Customs, UPS and their ******* hidden fees, everything. Has anyone had to pay shipping fees that made you go balder? And I'm not talking about the shipping from Bose. ThanksThis message has been edited. Last edited by: ST,

vmx_12 In Canada, you can probably get your system from http://www.long-mcquade.com/ They *are* in Canada. You can contact them from their web-site, and see if they can ship to you in Quebec. I've had nothing but excellent service from them for decades.

ST is correct. You can purchase the system in Canada from Long & Mcquade. They are official Bose resellers for this product.

vmx_12 Je demeure a Ottawa. I live in Ottawa and have had my system since May. Let me know if I can be of any help to you in this process. Thanks from Ivan ivanmatte@sympatico.ca

I picked up a system at Long & Mcquade in Stratford Ontario last month. I was totally impressed after trying it out with a duo. 2 accoustics and vocals. We did a gig in a long narrow room in very tight set up area. It worked great. I never heard my partners old Martin d18 sound better with a Dean Markley pickup in the hole. My vocals even sounded good I am sure they will be selling a few more systems in my small town in the near future after my musician friends heard it and saw it. Danny

Hey Danny, Congratulations on getting your new system. Been to Stratford many times some very long time ago. Can't quite imagine any setting for live music that would garner anyone's disapproval. Maybe you can tell us about it. It seems that the folks who hangout here enjoy reading about each others' experiences with their new systems. Greetings from the left coast.
